INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The University of Cincinnati swimming and diving team traveled to Indianapolis, Indiana, on Thursday, sweeping the IUPUI teams in its second dual meet of the year. The men squeaked out a 158-142 win while the women collected a 193-106 victory.
// WOMEN'S PODIUM SWEEPS
The women's team dominated the Jaguars, finishing with six podium sweeps of first, second and third place. They kicked off the medal sweeps in the 200 freestyle where freshman Rocky Laabs (Heartland, Wis./Aarowhead) won with a time of 1:53.20, followed by sophomore Natalie Obando in second with a time of 1:53.55 and freshman Simone Palomo (Vargas, Venezuela/Los Corales) in third with a time of 1:54.87.
In the 100 breaststroke, junior Kennedy Herbert (Green, Ohio/Green) took first (1:05.49) while sophomore Carlie Perretta (Canton, Ohio/Perry) was second (1:05.83) and junior Monika Pikhartova (Cernosice, Czech Republic/Gymnasium Jana Nerudy) was third (1:07.20).
Freshman Michaela Wheeler (Loami, Ill./Home School) won the 100 freestyle (52.93) with sophomore Amanda Deller (Fairfield, Ohio/McAuley) second (53.40) and sophomore Katherine Gob (Louisville, Ky./Ballard) third (53.82).
Perretta took the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:23.24 while senior Gege Huffner (Reunion, Island, France/Font Romeu) was second (2:24.60) and senior Andrea Bartel (Euclid, Ohio/Euclid) was third (2:26.60).
Laabs also won the 500 freestyle in 4:58.00 while junior Sydney King (Granville, Ohio/Western Kentucky) followed in second (5:03.01) and junior Sara Wanasek (Burlington, Wis./Burlington) finished third (5:06.19).
The final women's sweep of the meet came in the 200 IM where Wheeler won in a time of 2:09.04, sophomore Dee Sopapong (Tampa, Fla./Wharton) was second in 2:10.06 and sophomore Carolina Sheehan (Greenwood, Ind./Center Grove) was third in 2:10.81.

Five Bearcats were double winners on the night, including Laabs and Wheeler. Additionally, senior Jacqueline Keire (Burlington, Ontario/Nelson) won both the 1000 (10:18.06) and 50 (23.42) freestyle events, sophomore Matt McDonald (Cincinnati, Ohio/Lakota East) won the 100 (52.24) and 200 (1:51.31) backstroke and junior Chris Bready (Missouri City, Texas/Lawrence E. Elkins) won the 1000 (9:17.25) and 500 (4:28.75) freestyle.
