Volleyball Tops Temple in Five-Sets

PHILADELPHIA
- The University of Cincinnati volleyball team earned redemption over Temple, beating the Owls in five sets in Philadelphia on Friday night. Sophomore Jordan Thompson (Edina, Minn./Edina) led the Bearcats with 25 kills and 15 digs for her ninth double-double of the year. Senior Ciara Hill (Bolingbrook, Ill./Bolingbrook) contributed a season-high 20 kills with just one error for a .442 hitting percentage.

- Cincinnati improves to 17-9 on the year and 12-3 in The American while Temple falls to 18-7 and 11-4 in the league.
- The Bearcats and the Owls split the series on the year and UC is now 6-8 all-time against Temple.
- Thompson has recorded double-digit kills in 23 matches this season while Hill has reached the milestone on 14 occasions. Additionally, sophomore Carly Nolan (Crystal Lake, Ill./Crystal Lake South) had 11 kills vs. Temple and has finished with double-digit kills 19 time this year.
- Sophomore Jade Tingelhoff (Lakeville, Minn./Lakeville South) finished with 47 assists and 12 digs, good for her eighth double-double of the season.
- Sophomore Abby Williams (Loveland, Ohio/Ursuline Academy) collected 12 digs for the Beracats.
- The Bearcats held Temple to a .211 attacking percentage and are 17-3 on the year when their opponent hits below the mark. It is the 12th time in the last 13 matches that they have kept their opponent under .250.
- The team's eight service aces were the most since finishing with nine against Southern Illinois on Sept. 10.
- Cincinnati topped the Owls in kills (63-56), blocks (12.0-10.0) and aces (eight-two) while Temple won the battles in assists (56-55) and digs (71-59).

// SET BREAKDOWN
Set 1: TU 25, UC 22
- Temple broke a 6-6 tie with three straight kills to go ahead 9-6 and force a timeout by head coach Molly Alvey.
- A kill by Thompson tied the score at 12-12 and a Temple attacking error put the Bearcats ahead 13-12.
- The teams traded points until a block by the Owls and a bad set by the Bearcats put the home team ahead 19-17.
- Cincinnati fought off two set points to being a Temple timeout, but a kill by Iva Deak ended the game at 25-22.
Set 2: UC 25, TU 18
- The Bearcats used a run of seven straight points, including two service aces from Williams and kills from Hill (two), Nolan and junior Maya Muldrow (Raleigh, N.C./Wakefield), to go ahead 13-8.
- The Owls fought back to within 19-17 but a kill by Thompson sparked a three-point rally to increase the lead to 22-17.
- A Thompson ace was the winning point for the Bearcats with a 24-18 scoreline.
- Cincinnati scored on six service aces during the game, including two apiece from Williams and Thompson and one from both redshirt senior Alison Kimmel (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield North) and senior Lindsey Dinkelacker (Cincinnati, Ohio/St. Louis).
Set 3: UC 25, TU 22
- A five-point scoring run, led by Thompson's third service ace of the day, sandwiched a Temple timeout and finished with an 8-4 Cincinnati lead.
- The Owls pulled ahead at 12-11 but back-to-back kills by Hill and a ball handling error on Temple's Kyra Coundourides helped UC regain a 13-11 lead.
- The Bearcats kept a one or two point lead until an Alaiwan kill and a Muldrow block pushed the lead to 23-20. Four points later, a Thompson kill won the game for Cincinnati.
Set 4: TU 25, UC 16
- Coach Alvey was forced into her two timeouts before the Bearcats had even scored 15 points, trailing 19-14 following consecutive Temple kills.
- From there, the Owls used a four-point scoring run for a 23-15 advantage and won 25-16 on a UC attacking error, bring a deciding fifth set.
Set 5: UC 15, TU 5
- The Bearcats dominated from the outset of the final game, using a kill by Nolan and two straight Temple errors to race to a 5-2 lead.
- Hill contributed with a kill and a solo block to put her team ahead 8-5 at the court change.
- The Owls were held scoreless the rest of the way while the Bearcats used four straight kills from Thompson and Hill, a Temple error and another Thompson kill for the 15-5 victory.

Cincinnati heads to Storrs, Connecticut, for a match against the UConn Huskies on Sunday, Nov. 13. The match will be played at noon in Gampel Pavilion.
