CINCINNATI - The University of Cincinnati football team again struggled on offense and dropped a 34-7 decision to Memphis in American Athletic Conference action Friday night at Nippert Stadium.
Cincinnati (4-7, 1-6 American) has lost four straight games and six of its last seven, tallying only 26 points during the streak. Memphis (7-4, 4-3 American) has beaten the Bearcats in three straight games.
"Same old song," UC Head Coach Tommy Tuberville said. "I didn't think we would turn the ball over early like we did, but, again, you still have to make a first down and get the ball across the goal line. We left our defense out there (in) the first half way too long. It went downhill from there."
Hayden Moore threw a 10-yard touchdown pass to Devin Gray early in the fourth quarter for Cincinnati (4-7, 1-6), which gained just 99 yards in the first half and finished with 244 yards of offense. Moore was 23 of 34 for 144 yards and threw two interceptions.
The fourth-quarter score snapped a drought of 205:08 or over 13 quarters without a touchdown for UC.
Eric Wilson led the defense with 12 tackles while Zach Edwards added 11.
Edwards and Wilson were among 17 seniors honored by UC during a pregame ceremony on the field ahead of the final home contest of the season.
The rest of the class includes: DT Hakeem Allonce, C Deyshawn Bond, LB Franklin Bruscianelli, RB Deionte Buckley, DT Chris Burton, WR Nate Cole, TE DJ Dowdy, RB Tion Green, QB Gunner Kiel, LB Antonio Kinard, OG Ryan Leahy, DT Alex Pace, OG Idarius Ray, DT Sione Tongamoa and S Mike Tyson.
The Tigers' Jason Stewart threw two touchdown passes and Doroland Dorceus ran for two more scores to lead Memphis to a 34-7 victory over Cincinnati on Friday night.
Stewart tossed a 2-yard touchdown pass to Joey Magnifico, and a 22-yard scoring strike to Anthony Miller. Stewart had 138 yards passing after replacing starting quarterback Riley Ferguson after the Tigers' first possession.
Dorceus ran for two scores inside the 8-yard line and finished with 66 yards rushing on 13 carries.
Cincinnati is facing a losing season for the first time since 2010 when they finished 4-8, also the last time the Bearcats missed a bowl game.
"I know that everybody is disgusted," Tuberville said. "We're disgusted and nobody is more disgusted than we are about not getting it done and not getting better. Again, guys have been practicing hard. You get better in practice and our guys have been practicing their tails off trying to improve. We just can't make a big play. We can't get any momentum."
UC closes out the regular season at Tulsa on Friday, November 25 at 8:30 p.m. ET. The game from the Golden Hurricanes' Chapman Stadium will be televised nationally by ESPNU, with radio coverage on 700 WLW AM and TuneIn.com.
