STORRS, Conn. -- The University of Cincinnati lacrosse team got a hat trick from Courtney Curtis and 11 saves from Meg Gulmi, but fell in the BIG EAST Conference opener on Saturday afternoon at UConn, 17-6. The loss drops the Bearcats to 4-7 on the season, while UConn improved to 8-2 and 2-0 in the league.

Not quite 15 minutes in, the trio of Finkelston, Nolan and Fazio had spotted the hosts to a 6-0 lead, including a pair of man-up goals. Fazio scored a pair of free position goals in the opening six-goal run.

13:24 1st - CIN Courtney Curtis
Curtis scored the first of her three goals to finally get the Bearcats on the board with 13:24 to play in the first half.

19:40 2nd - UCONN Katherine Finkelston
Finkelston capped her six goal day by scoring three Husky goals during the opening 10:20 of the second half, putting UConn up, 15-4. Two goals were unassisted, including this one at 19:40, while the middle goal just two minutes earlier came from the free position.

Curtis picked up her third hat trick of the season by scoring the final goal of the contest and providing the final margin of 17-6.
