Volleyball Sweeps ULM in Tennessee Classic Finale

KNOXVILLE, Tenn.
- The University of Cincinnati volleyball team ended the DISH Tennessee Classic with a 3-0 victory over the University of Louisiana-Monroe on Saturday afternoon in Knoxville, Tennessee. Sophomores Carly Nolan (Crystal Lake, Ill./Crystal Lake South) and Jordan Thompson (Edina, Minn./Edina) each recorded double-digit kills with 13 and 12, respectively, to lead all scorers.

// NOTABLES
- Cincinnati moved to 2-1 on the year while ULM fell to 0-3.
- Thompson's 12 kills bring her weekend total to 51 with a per set ratio of 4.64.
- Junior Maya Muldrow (Raleigh, N.C./Wakefield) finished with four blocks to bring her weekend total to 16 for 1.45 per set. She also added five kills to Cincinnati's effort.
- Setter Elly Ogle (Ft. Mitchell, Ky./LSU) had another all-around performance with 29 assists, seven digs, three kills and two blocks.
- Senior Ciara Hill (Bolingbrook, Ill./Bolingbrook) had nine kills with eight digs and three blocks.
- The Bearcats topped the Warhawks in kills (43-20), hitting percentage (.214-.012), assists (40-20), service aces (six-two), digs (40-30) while ULM beat UC in blocks (11.0-6.0).

// SET BREAKDOWN
Set 1: UC 25, ULM 21

- The teams were deadlocked at 11-11 until back-to-back kills by Nolan and a ULM attacking error pushed UC into a 14-11 lead.
- A powerful kill by Muldrow from Ogle forced a Warhawks timeout with an 18-14 Cincinnati advantage. The Bearcats added another point on the other side of the break with a ULM attacking error.
- On UC's first set point opportunity, a service error turned the ball back over to Louisiana-Monroe but the Warhawks returned the favor with a service error that ended the game at 25-21.
Set 2: UC 25, ULM 13
- Cincinnati recorded four consecutive kills with two from Muldrow and one apiece from Hill and Nolan for a 10-5 lead and a Louisiana-Monroe timeout. A block by Muldrow and Ogle out of the break closed the UC scoring run with an 11-5 advantage.
- A kill by Thompson, a block by Muldrow and Hill and a pair of Warhawks errors contributed to a 4-point scoring run and a 20-12 UC lead.
- The Bearcats recorded the final five points of the set, including three consecutive kills by Hill, for a 25-13 victory and a 2-0 lead in the match.
Set 3: UC 25, ULM 23
- UC The Warhawks opened a 6-2 lead but three consecutive service aces by Nolan brought the Bearcats within a point at 6-5.
- A series of three straight points from ULM forced head coach Molly Alvey into a timeout with her team down 15-11. The Bearcats responded out of the break with two kills by Thompson and a ULM attacking error to get within 15-14 on the scoreboard and push the Warhawks into a timeout of their own.
- Trailing 19-15, the Bearcats then employed a five-point scoring run to take a 20-19 lead. Thompson and Hill each tallied a pair of kills during the run.
- On UC's second match point, Nolan slammed a ball cross court, giving the Bearcats the sweep over ULM.

The Bearcats will travel to Wichita, Kansas, for the Shocker Volleyball Classic hosted by Wichita State on September 2 and 3. UC will face Wichita State at 8 p.m. ET on Friday before matching up with Marquette at 11 a.m. ET and IUPUI at 6 p.m. ET on Saturday.
