WICHITA, Kan. -- The University of Cincinnati volleyball team battled through four tight sets with Marquette before falling 3-1 (21-25, 25-19, 20-25, 21-25) on Saturday morning in Wichita, Kansas. The match was the second for the Bearcats at the Shocker's Volleyball Classic after beating the host Wichita State 3-1 in the opener on Friday night.
Sophomore Jade Tingelhoff (Lakeville, Minn./Lakeville South) paced the Bearcats with 46 assists and 12 digs for her first double-double of the season.

- Cincinnati fell to 3-2 on the year while Marquette improved to 4-1.
- The Golden Eagles are receiving votes in the AVCA Top-25 Coaches poll.
- Tingelhoff's double-double comes after a 2015 season where she notched 16 double-doubles for the Bearcats.
- Sophomore Carly Nolan (Crystal Lake, Ill./Crystal Lake South) led all players with 17 kills and finished with nine digs, one shy of her second double-double in as many matches.
- Sophomore Abby Williams (Loveland, Ohio/Loveland) had 13 dig while adding six assists.
- Sophomore Jordan Thompson (Edina, Minn./Edina) had 14 kills and has registered double-digit kills in each match of the 2016 season. She added five digs and four blocks.
- Senior Ciara Hill (Bolingbrook, Ill./Bolingbrook) put up a season-high 11 kills and has registered double-digit kill totals in the last two matches.
- The loss was the first on a Saturday for the Bearcats since Sept. 20, 2014. UC went 7-0 on Saturdays in 2015 and beat both Middle Tennessee State and Louisiana-Monroe on Aug. 27.
// SET BREAKDOWN
Set 1: MU 25, UC 21
- Marquette opened a 4-0 lead thanks in part to three UC attacking errors, but the Bearcats battled back to score four of the next five points to get within 5-4. Cincinnati used kills from junior Maya Muldrow (Raleigh, N.C./Wakefield), Nolan and Hill during the run.
- The teams were tied at 10-all before a five-points scoring run by the Golden Eagles pushed MU into a 15-10 lead.
- A kill by Thompson made it 23-21 but a pair of Marquette kills slammed the door for a 25-21 MU win.
Set 2: UC 25, MU 19
- Cincinnati again found themselves in an early hole but clawed back to tie the score at 8-8 with a kill by Muldrow.
- The Bearcats finally started to roll with three straight points for a 12-10 lead and a Marquette timeout. Thompson was influential in the run with a kill and a block.
- Back-to-back kills pulled the Golden Eagles within 19-18 but Cincinnati responded with four straight points, including a kill by Nolan, a block by Muldrow and Thompson and two MU errors, to go ahead 23-18.
- Another block by the tandem of Muldrow and Thompson gave UC the 25-19 victory on its first set point opportunity and tied the match at 1-1.
Set 3: MU 25, UC 20
- The Bearcats worked to tie the score at 12-12 with a kill from Thompson and a solo block by Hill but the Golden Eagles used three consecutive kills to go back in front 15-12.
- Marquette broke a 16-16 tie by scoring four of the next five points for a 20-17 advantage.
- MU scored twice out of a Cincinnati timeout to close the game at 25-20 and take a 2-1 lead in the match.
Set 4: MU 25, UC 20
- The Bearcats and the Golden Eagles were tied at 11-11 until Marquette rattled off two consecutive kills by Taylor Louis followed by two consecutive blocks by Amanda Green and Jenna Rosenthal for a 15-11 advantage and a timeout by the Bearcats.
- Facing an 18-13 deficit, Cincinnati scored four straight points to get within 18-17. Thompson recorded a pair of kills during the run for the Bearcats.
- A three-point MU scoring run forced a Cincinnati timeout with a 21-17 score, but the Bearcats could not manage to get any closer than 23-20. A kill by Rosenthal closed out the match with a 3-1 Marquette victory.
