CINCINNATI -- The University of Cincinnati women's tennis team opened up the spring season on a strong note with a 7-0 sweep of IUPUI Friday night inside the Western Tennis & Fitness Club.

The Bearcats played doubles to completion, picking up all three victories to start the night. Harley Hutchison (Joliet, Ill./Joliet Catholic Academy) and Anna Philp (Burlington, Ontario/Burlington Central) added the first victory by a 6-0 score while the dominant duo of Lauren Bellinger (Dublin, Ohio/Dublin Jerome) and Kelly Poggensee-Wei (Lake Villa, Ill./Grayslake North) picked up a 6-1 win to secure the first point for the Bearcats.

The bottom of the order made quick work of the Jaguars in single action with courts No. 4, 5 and 6 all winning in straight sets by scores of 6-0, 6-0. Katya Bure (Springfield, N.J./Jonathan Dayton) added the first singles point for UC with Hutchison and Philp following close behind and securing the overall match for the Bearcats with the score sitting at 4-0. The win marked the first career dual win for the freshman Philp.
The top of the order then finished off the sweep, with Bellinger adding a victory by a 6-0, 6-3 score. Kelly Poggensee-Wei recorded her 6-2, 6-2 win before Antonella Bramato (Pachuca, Mexico/Elise Freinet) finished off the night, also by a 6-2, 6-2 score.
The performance matches the Bearcats 7-0 win over the Jaguars last season.
The Bearcats honored 2016 graduate Hannah Wille following the match presenting her the CoSIDA Academic All-American award she received during the summer.

The Bearcats return to action next weekend with a pair of road matches. UC will face off with Miami (Ohio) on Saturday, Jan. 28 before heading to Indiana to take on the Hoosiers on Sunday, Jan. 29. Saturday's match is set for 2 p.m. and Sunday's will start at 2:30 p.m.
