HOUSTON - The University of Cincinnati swimming and diving teams wrapped up competition at the 2017 American Athletic Conference Championship in Houston, Texas, on Saturday, with both teams finishing in third place. The team bronze medal is the highest-ever place at The American Championship for the UC women while the men tied their best showing from the 2016 meet.
Senior Jacqueline Keire (Burlington, Ontario/Nelson) made conference history on Saturday becoming the first student-athlete, male or female, to be named the American Most Outstanding Swimmer for three consecutive years. This season she shared the award with SMU's Matea Samardzic who both recorded a perfect 60 individual points at the competition.
Overall, the Bearcats broke a pair of meet records and three school records, registered 10 NCAA B-Cuts and earned seven podium finishes on Saturday en route to their historic finish.
// 1650 FREESTYLE
The distance swimmer shone in the final day of the meet, swimming the grueling mile race and earning three medals and three NCAA B-cuts. In the women's race, junior Sara Wanasek (Burlington, Wis./Burlington) finished in third place with a time of 16:31.83. The men's team dominated the field, led by junior Chris Bready (Missouri City, Texas/Lawrence E. Elkins) who shattered the previous meet and school records to finish first in a time of 15:00.79. Freshman Din Selmanovic (Mississauga, Ontario/Cawthra) was third in 15:06.16 and freshman Tyler Jones (Walla Walla, Wash./Walla Walla) was fourth in 15:19.32. Bready, Selmanovic and Jones all reached the NCAA B-cut mark with their swims.
// WOMEN'S 200 BACKSTROKE
Sophomore Natalie Obando (Herndon, Va./Towson) set a school record of her own in the women's 200 backstroke, earning a bronze medal in a time of 1:57.14, good for an NCAA B-cut.
// WOMEN'S 100 FREESTYLE
After winning the 50 freestyle on Thursday and the 200 freestyle on Friday, Keire earned the trifecta on Saturday, picking up a gold medal in the women's 100 freestyle. It was her third consecutive victory in the race after also winning championship heat in 2015 and 2016. In what was the final individual swim of her conference career, Keire earned her 11th American championship title, marking her as the most decorated student-athlete in conference history. Her final time of 47.95 was a meet and school record and earned her another NCAA B-cut.

While not being able to defend his conference platform diving crown, sophomore Louis Hunt (Lakeside Park, Ky./Covington Catholic) did manage to finish on the podium, earning a bronze medal with a score of 229.10.
