CINCINNATI - The University of Cincinnati baseball team opened the home portion of its home schedule with a 6-1 win over Indiana on a blustery night at Marge Schott Stadium.
The Bearcats (3-4) scored two in the bottom of the third, but did most of their damage in the bottom of the sixth, plating four runs and getting nine innings of three-hit, one-run ball from four pitchers in the win.
Cam Alldred (Batavia, Ohio/Cincinnati Country Day) was 2-for-4 with and run scored on the evening. A.J. Bumpass (Rougemont, N.C./Northern), Connor McVey (Mason, Ohio/Mason), Kyle Mottice (Canal Fulton, Ohio/Jackson), Ryan Noda (Volo, Ill./Grant) and Eric Santiago (Bethlehem, Pa./Notre Dame Green Pond) all recorded RBI during the game.
A.J. Olasz (West Mifflin, Pa./West Mifflin Area) got the win, giving up a single run and two hits in three innings of work, striking out a pair. Clayton Colvin (Dublin, Ohio/Jerome) had four innings of shutout relief, giving up a single hit, striking out one and walking one.
Jarod (Marysville, Ohio/Marysville) and Reese Robinson (Dayton, Ohio/Centreville) pitched a scoreless eighth and ninth inning, respectively, to close out the win in UC's first midweek game of the campaign.
Cal Kruger took the loss for the Hoosiers, giving up a pair of runs in three innings of work. Laren Eustace had a hit, walk and run scored and IU's other hits were recorded by Ryan Fineman and Tony Butler.

• The Bearcats are 19-7 in the last 26 games at Marge Schott Stadium and featured a .720 winning percentage in 2016, UC's best home mark since the facility opened in 2004.
• Senior R.J. Thompson has recorded at least one hit in each of the first seven games for the Bearcats, one of only five players in the conference to record the feat.
• UC Head Coach Ty Neal came to Cincinnati from Indiana where he spent eight seasons as the pitching coach and recruiting coordinator for the Hoosiers. Additionally, assistant coach Ted Tom and volunteer assistant coach Dustin Coffman also spent time on the IU coaching staff while Coffman earned his degree in exercise science from Indiana in 2009.
• The Bearcats have three players from the state of Indiana, junior Treg Haberkorn (Leo, Ind./Leo), freshman Wyatt Schwing (Aurora, Ind./South Dearborn) and freshman Josh Wooten (Carmel, Ind./North Central)

Top Third
Indiana drew first blood, plating one run in the top of the third. Eustace reached on an error and later advanced to second after Dedelow was hit by a pitch. Both runners advanced a base following a wild pitch. Sowers grounded out to the shortstop, plating Eustace and Fineman lined out to second to end the inning.
Bottom Third
Noda worked the count to 3-2 and walked to lead off the fourth. Thomas laid down a sacrifice bunt to advance Noda to second. Santiago singled to third, scoring Noda. Santiago took second on the play and advanced to third on an error. Mercer walked and later stole second base after a Bumpass fly out. Santiago scored on a passed ball and Mercer advanced to third before McVey struck out swinging to end the frame.
Bottom Sixth
Saalfrank came in to pitch for the Hoosiers. Bumpass walked to lead things off. McVey bounced a single to the shortstop, moving Bumpass to second. Thompson laid down a sacrifice bunt for the first out of the inning, advancing Bumpass to third and McVey to second. Mottice singled to short center field to score Bumpass and advance McVey. singled under the first baseman's mitt to plate McVey and move Mottice to third. Saalfrank was lifted with a 1-0 count on Noda for Kelley. Noda doubled to the wall in right-center, scoring Mottice and Alldred. Thomas lined out to Eustace who made a sliding catch in center field for the second out of the inning with Noda tagging up on the play. Santiago grounded out to second base to end the inning.

UC heads back on the road this weekend for a three-game set at Arkansas State. The Bearcats and Red Wolves will play in Jonesboro at 7 p.m. Friday, 3 p.m. Saturday and 2 p.m. on Sunday.
