Bearcats Dominant in 15-4 Victory at Central Michigan

MT. PLEASANT, Mich. -
The University of Cincinnati lacrosse team put on a dominating show on Sunday afternoon, beating Central Michigan 15-4 on the road in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan. Defensively, UC held an opponent to its lowest goal total since a 7-3 win over Liberty on March 14, 2013.

Senior Elaina Enich (New Albany, Ohio/New Albany) led the way for the Bearcats with four goals, tying a career high. In the cage, junior Alex MacAffer (Slingerlands, N.Y./Academy for Girls) played all 60 minutes for Cincinnati, producing six saves and allowing just four goals.

- With the victory, Cincinnati improves to 2-4 while Central Michigan falls to 1-4.
- Freshman Monica Borzillo (Devon, Pa./Conestoga) finished the game with two goals and three assists for a weekend total of five goals, eight assists and 13 points.
- Borzillo has recorded at least two goals in every game of her NCAA career.
- Junior Bridget Cleary (Centerville, Va./Chantilly) and sophomore Katie Stegmann (Lewis Center, Ohio/Olentangy) each recorded a pair of goals for Cincinnati.
- Julia Byrne (McLean, Va./Langley) scored her first-career goal in the second half off a pass from Borzillo. The sophomore also added her first-career assist.
- Junior defender Lauren Hudson (Baltimore, Md./Maryvale Preparatory) collected a career-high eight ground balls, a number that ranks her third in program history for ground balls in a game. It is the most ground balls picked up by a single player since Meg Gulmi had 10 on March 20, 2014.
- For the second consecutive game, Stegmann had six draw controls to tie a career high.
- Junior Schuyler Nissen (Philadelphia, Pa./Germantown Friends School) tied career highs with five draw controls and two caused turnovers.
- Hudson and senior Skylar DeLemos (Cranbury, N.J./West Windsor-Plainsboro) each caused two turnovers in the game.

Borzillo kick-started the UC offense with an unassisted goal just over a minute into the game. 11 seconds later, Enich notched her first goal to begin the UC rout.

Cincinnati scored five quick goals to open the game but then went scoreless for the next 18 minutes. Freshman Amanda Fess (Fayetteville, N.Y./Christian Brothers Academy) finally got the Bearcats back on track with a goal off the assist by Byrne for a 6-1 UC lead.

The Bearcats opened the second half in similar fashion to the first, scoring five goals in the first five minutes, including Enich's fourth goal of the game to tie her career high with 27:14 remaining. It was the first free-position goal of the game for UC.

Borzillo gained possession midway up the field and took the ball all the way to the goal, slipping a shot past CMU's Hope Murray for her second goal of the game and a 14-3 UC advantage.

The Bearcats will finally return to Cincinnati on Friday, March 17, for their home-opener against Gardner-Webb at 5 p.m. The game will be played at Gettler Stadium.
