CINCINNATI - The University of Cincinnati baseball team started a five-game homestand off with a 1-0 win over Miami (Ohio) on a sunny but chilly day at Marge Schott Stadium.
Cincinnati moved its record to 7-8 on the year and 2-0 and Marge Schott Stadium.
The temperature was 41 degrees at first pitch but it didn't bother UC starter A.J. Olasz (West Mifflin, Pa./West Mifflin Area) who threw a sharp six shutout innings, striking out four and giving up three hits to move his record to 2-0 on the season. A.J. Kullman (Powell, Ohio/Olentangy Liberty) closed things out in the top of the ninth for his first save of the season.
Grant Hartwig went the distance for Miami (3-11) in the loss.
Cole Murphy (Cincinnati, Ohio/Walnut Hills) got the Bearcats the go-ahead run in the bottom of the fifth inning after doubling off the wall in center field to score Treg Haberkorn (Leo, Indiana/Leo). Murphy was thrown out trying to stretch his double into a triple.
