CINCINNATI - The University of Cincinnati lacrosse team dominated from start to finish in its home opener, beating Gardner Webb 21-6 on Friday night at Gettler Stadium. Freshman Monica Borzillo (Devon, Pa./Conestoga) set two school records, dishing out six assists and accumulating nine total points.
A total of five players recorded hat tricks for the Bearcats on the night, led by sophomore Katie Stegmann (Lewis Center, Ohio/Olentangy) who had four goals. Borzillo, junior Mackenzie Schoen (Roswell Ga./Roswell), sophomore Amanda Donovan (Ellicott City, Md./Mount de Sales Academy) and freshman McKenna Rushford (Buffalo, N.Y./Amherst Central) also finished with three goals in the rout.
UC scored 16 times in the first half alone after reaching that mark just once in its previous six games. The 21 total goals is second-most in school history, falling to the 22 goals it scored against Presbyterian exactly four years ago on March 17, 2013.
