CINCINNATI -- The University of Cincinnati lacrosse team dropped its BIG EAST Conference opener 16-10 to Marquette on Sunday afternoon in Gettler Stadium. The Bearcats were within 7-6 at halftime but gave up nine goals in the second half, including the final five goals of the game, to eliminate the possibility of a comeback.
Senior Elaina Enich (New Albany, Ohio/New Albany) tied her career high with four goals while junior goalie Alex MacAffer (Slingerlands, N.Y./Albany Academy for Girls) came up with a career-high 12 saves in the cage for UC.

- With the loss, Cincinnati falls to 3-5 and 0-1 in the BIG EAST while Marquette moves to 3-6 and 1-0.
- Freshman Monica Borzillo (Devon, Pa./Conestoga) has recorded a goal in each game of her collegiate career.
- Enich's four goals tied her career high which she also set on March 6, 2016, vs. Central Michigan and March 12, 2017, also vs. Central Michigan.
- MacAffer's 11 saves topped her previous career high of 10 which she set on Feb. 19, 2017, in the season opener at Ohio State.
- Senior defender Skylar DeLemos (Cranbury, N.J./West Windsor-Plainboro) chipped in five ground balls and three caused turnovers to the UC effort.

Enich scored the first goal of the day for the Bearcats on an unassisted shot to cut the early deficit to 2-1.

Freshman McKenna Rushford (Buffalo, N.Y./Amherst Central) kept UC within a goal on a free-position score. She scored her second one minute and 21 second later to tie the game at 3-3.
2:01 2nd | CIN | Monica Borzillo
Borzillo kept her goal streak alive when she tallied the sixth goal of the game for Cincinnati with just over two minutes remaining in the half. The goal got UC within one at 7-6.
11:58 2nd | CIN | Jayde Sains
Sophomore Jayde Sains (East Islip, N.Y./LIU-Brooklyn) scored on a free-position shot to get the MU lead back to a single goal at 11-10. It was the second straight goal for the Bearcats after Enich's fourth goal of the day came with 13:35 remaining.

30 seconds after Sains' goal, the Golden Eagles responded with a shot by Megan Menzuber. It was the first of five consecutive goals for Marquette throughout the final 11 minutes of the game while the Bearcats were held scoreless the rest of the way.

The Bearcats will stay at home for a game against Winthrop on Friday, March 24. The game be played at the Sheakley Athletics Center and the first draw is scheduled for noon.
