JONESBORO, Ark. -- The University of Cincinnati baseball team got an 11-4 win over Arkansas State Sunday, in the series finale at Tomlinson Stadium/Kell Field.
The Bearcats jumped on the board first with four runs in the top of the second and extended the lead with a pair in the top of third, two in the top of the seventh and three in the top of the eighth.
A.J. Bumpass (Rougemont, N.C/Northern) was 2-for-5 with four RBIs, Connor McVey (Mason, Ohio/Mason) and Eric Santiago (Bethlehem, Pa./Notre Dame Green Pond) had two hits and two RBIs apiece while Kyle Mottice (Canal Fulton, Ohio/Jackson) had a double with 2 RBIs.
David Orndorff (Pasadena, Calif./Pasadena Polytechnic) scattered three runs over eight innings of work with five strikeouts to pick up his first win of the season. Arkansas State's Collin Cahill took the loss, giving up six runs in 2.1 innings of work.
// NOTABLES
▪ With the win, Cincinnati is 4-6 on the season while Arkansas State dropped to 8-5.
▪ Sunday marked UC's first win in four all-time meetings between the two teams. Arkansas State won the first game 55 years ago, a 2-0 decision on April 20, 1962, and won the first two games of the series.
▪ Issac Olson (Glendale, Mo./Chaminade College Prep) made his collegiate debut in the top of the ninth, giving up a run on two hits.
▪ One of McVey's two hits was a triple. He also drew two walks, stole a base and scored a run.
▪ UC hit .350 (7 for 20) with runners on the bases Sunday.

Top Fourth
Noda led off with a single through the right side. Thomas reached on catcher's interference, advancing Noda to second. Santiago bunted and reached on a fielder's choice. Thomas took second but Noda was thrown out at third base on the play. Mercer reached on a dropped fly ball by the right fielder to load the bases. Bumpass hit the second pitch he saw down the right-field line for a triple to plate Thomas, and Mercer. McVey walked and Thompson hit a sac fly to center field to score Bumpass. McVey stole second, but Mottice flew out to end the inning.
Bottom Fourth
The RedWolves got on the board in the bottom of the frame after Rucker walked, advanced to second on a passed ball, took third on a wild pitch and scored on a sac fly to center field hit by Brown.
Top Third
UC added a pair of runs in the third. led off with a single to center field. Nod was hit by a pitch, advancing to second. Thomas hit a sacrifice bunt to advance the runners. Cahill was lifted for Mitzel and Santiago hit his first pitch up the middle to score Noda and Alldred. Mercer reached on a fielder's choice and Santiago was thrown out at second on the play. Mercer was caught stealing to end the threat.
Bottom Fourth
ASU scored twice in the inning, doing their damage with two outs. Rucker singled through the right side and scored on Brown's double down the left-field line. Bakamus was next up and also hit a double, this time to left center, scoring Brown. Howard struck out swinging to close the inning.
Top Seventh
Bumpass led off with a single to right field. McWey walked on four pitches. Thompson sacrifice bunted to advance the runners. Mottice dropped a double down the right-field line to score McVey and Bumpass. struck out swinging and Noda fouled out to left field, ending the scoring threat.
Top Eighth
Thomas walked to lead off. Santiago singled down the right-field line and Thomas advanced to second. Mercer was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Bumpass reached on a fielder's choice, scoring Thomas. Mercer was thrown out at second and Santiago advanced to third on the play. McVey cranked a triple to right center to plate Bumpass and Santiago. Thompson popped up to second and Mottice grounded out to second for the last two outs of the frame.
