Tournament Live Scoring/Results
University of Cincinnati sophomore Austin Squires (Union, Ky./Ryle High School) and senior Jared O'Kelley (Canton, Ga./Creekview High School) each carded an opening round 1-under par 71 Monday to tie for ninth place at the Old Waverly Collegiate Championship in West Point, Mississippi.
The Bearcats duo is six strokes behind tournament leader Dawson Armstrong of Lipscomb, who registered a 7-under 65.
Heavy rain shorten the scheduled 54-hole event to 36 holes. Final-round play is Tuesday beginning at 10 a.m. ET.
Squires' round Monday featured three consecutive birdies on holes 14 through 16. He also shot 1-under on the front nine. O'Kelley, who posted a career-best-tying 7-under 209 in UC's last tournament, continued his solid play with his fourth consecutive below-par round. He finished the day with three birdies and 13 par scores.
Fellow UC senior Chad Howard (Dublin, Ohio/Jerome High School) carded a 1-over 73 to tie eight other players for 24th place entering Tuesday's final round.
"We adapted pretty well to the conditions after the heavy rain and were able to battle the strong winds," UC head coach Doug Martin said. "We had three guys play really solid golf. They drove the ball well and had good control in wet conditions. Tuesday will be a shootout. We're eager for the opportunity to see what we can do."
As a squad, the Bearcats are sixth in the 16-team field at 2-over 290, seven strokes behind tournament leaders USF and Kennesaw State at 5-under 283.
