WASHINGTON, D.C. - The University of Cincinnati lacrosse team dropped a 19-7 decision against Georgetown on Wednesday afternoon in Washington, D.C. The Bearcats pulled to within five late in the first half but surrendered the next seven goals to the Hoyas to put the game out of reach.

- With the loss, Cincinnati moves to 5-9 on the season and 1-5 in the BIG EAST while Georgetown improves to 7-7 and 5-1.
- Sophomore Katie Stegmann (Lewis Center, Ohio/Olentangy) led the offense with two goals on two shots.
- Freshman Monica Borzillo (Devon, Pa./Conestoga) recorded a goal in the first half and owns the program single-season records for points (64), points per game (4.64), assists (31) and assists per game (2.21).
- Despite the score line, the Bearcats played fairly even with the Hoyas in turnovers (17-17), fouls (23-22), saves (8-8), clears (16-15) and ground balls (15-17). Georgetown's advantages came in shots (18-33) and draw controls (9-18).

The Bearcats had several quality chances during their first possession of the game but were unable to capitalize until sophomore Amanda Donovan (Ellicott City, Md./Mount de Sales Academy) scored off a restart to get the visitors on the scoreboard.

The Cincinnati defense stood strong through a flurry of Georgetown attacks and finally gained possession of the ball to start a fast break towards the GU cage. After cutting through the 8 meter arc, Stegmann earned a free position shot which she put away to cut the Hoya's lead to 5-2.

Goalie Alex MacAffer (Slingerlands, N.Y./Albany Academy for Girls) made two crucial saves on the defensive end and the Bearcats immediately raced the ball up the field, resulting in Borzillo's goal off an assist from Donovan.

The Bearcats showed some crisp passing to lead to their sixth goal of the game. Stegmann won a draw control and took the ball up the field, finding junior Mackenzie Shoen (Roswell, Ga./Roswell) near the top of the arc. Shoen's quick pass to sophomore Maria Collachi (Parkton, Md./Hereford) was well placed and resulted in a goal from the front of the cage.

// UP NEXT
The Bearcats return to Cincinnati for their final two home games of the 2017 season. UC will welcome UConn on Saturday, April 15, at noon, before hosting Vanderbilt on Saturday, April 22, at 6 p.m. Both games will be played at the Sheakley Athletics Center.
