University of Cincinnati senior Brennen Walsh (Cincinnati, Ohio/Elder High School) leads all Bearcats, tied for 39th place at 8-over par 75-77=152, after two rounds of action at the Boilermaker Invitational in West Lafayette, Indiana.
The two-day, 54-hole event concludes Sunday at the Kampen Course (par 72; 7,465 yards). Final-round play starts at 8 a.m. ET. Live scoring is available at BirdieFire.com.
Walsh and the Bearcats battled windy conditions on a difficult course Saturday. Walsh carded a birdie and 14 par scores to post a 3-over 75 in the morning's opening round. He was 2-under through five holes in the second round before a quadruple bogey on the 17th hole disrupted his momentum before finishing the round at 4-over 77.
"Take away his problems on the 17th hole in the afternoon and Brennen played really good golf all day," UC head coach Doug Martin said. "He did a good job of controlling the trajectory of his ball in the wind throughout the day."
Wisconsin's Nick Robinson leads the 84-player field at 3-under 71-70=141.
The difficult conditions saw every team finish the day over par. The Bearcats struggled throughout the day, especially during the afternoon round, finishing 15th at 42-over 301-317=618. Kent State leads the event at 5-over 285-296=581.
"It was a difficult day for us, a challenge from the start," Martin said. "We did not have our best stuff and the conditions magnified that."
