CINCINNATI - The University of Cincinnati baseball team dropped the series finale, 14-3, to East Carolina on Sunday in American Athletic Conference action at Marge Schott Stadium.
The game ended after eight innings due to the American's Sunday 10-run rule. The Bearcats (20-20, 5-7 American) scored single runs in the third, fourth and fifth, but could not avoid the big inning in the fourth and eighth. The Pirates (22-19, 2-10 American) scored six runs with two outs on the board and outhit Cincinnati 16-10.
ECU's seven-run fourth inning turned a 1-1 game into an 8-1 . The Pirates added six more in the eighth to put them ahead by 10 and end the game after eight.
Connor McVey (Mason, Ohio/Mason) had a pair of RBI groundouts and Manny Rodriguez (Brooklyn, N.Y./Calvert Hall) continued his sharp hitting with a pair of hits and but it was not enough to pull UC back into the game.
A day after mustering only one hit against the Pirates, UC recovered with 10 in the game. Along with Rodriguez, R.J. Thompson (Mason, Ohio/Mason) and Eric Santiago (Bethlehem, Pa./Notre Dame Green Pond) both had multiple hits.
Nathan Kroger (Loveland, Ohio/Milford) got the start and retired the first six he faced, but gave up a leadoff home run in the third and gave way later in the inning to A.J. Kullman (Powell, Ohio/Olentangy Liberty). Kullman took the loss, giving up five runs off five hits in one inning of work. He gave way to Jarod (Marysville, Ohio/Marysville) who surrendered a pair of runs in an inning pitched. Cam Alldred (Batavia, Ohio/Cincinnati Country Day) pitched out of a bases-loaded jam in the fifth and went three innings, giving up three runs. Reese Robinson (Dayton, Ohio/Centerville) gave up three runs and got the final two outs of the eighth inning.
ECU's Tyler Smith earned the win after 1.2 innings in relief for starter Jake . West Covington pitched two scoreless innings.

· UC is 12-9 at Marge Schott Stadium in 2017.
· UC held its inaugural Bark in the Park event Sunday with over 50 dogs in attendance.
· McVey, Rodriguez and Thompson finished the week with seven, six and six hits, respectively. Rodriguez had a double and a triple, Thompson had three runs scored, a home run and a double and McVey had a double. All finished with three RBIs in five games.
· Haberkorn had three hits, including a triple, three runs scored, three RBIs and a pair of stolen bases.

UC does not have a midweek game due to finals taking place. The Bearcats return to the diamond next Friday, and Sunday in Storrs, Connecticut against the UConn Huskies at J. O. Christian Field. Games are scheduled for 3 p.m. ET on both Friday and Saturday with a 1 p.m. first pitch on Sunday.
