Tournament Results

University of Cincinnati sophomore Austin Squires (Union, Ky./Ryle High School) and senior Jared O'Kelley (Canton, Ga./Creekview High School) each carded identical 4-under par 68s Tuesday to finish tied for fourth place at 5-under 71-68=139 at the rain-shortened, 36-hole Old Waverly Collegiate Championship in West Point, Mississippi.

The Bearcats duo completed the event two strokes behind tournament co-medalists Kennesaw State's Chris Gugliemo (7-under 65-72=137) and Lipscomb's Dawson Armstrong (65-72=137).

Squires registered seven birdies Tuesday, including four during a six-hole stretch on the back nine. The 4-under 68 score marks a spring-season best for the sophomore. He matched that score three times during the fall campaign. With the result, he achieved his third top-10 finish of the spring season and his seventh in 2016-17.

O'Kelley posted five birdies with only one bogey during his round Tuesday to record his fifth consecutive round below par. By tying for fourth, the senior recorded his third consecutive top-10 finish of the spring season.

"It's been huge for our team to continue to get strong play from Austin and Jared on a weekly basis," UC head coach Doug Martin said. "Both were in control of their games and very comfortable on the course against a very competitive field at this event."

As a team, the Bearcats recorded a spring-season best 5-under 283 on Tuesday to finish at 3-under 290-283=573, tying tournament host Mississippi State (3-under 289-284=573) for sixth place in the 16-team event. The 283 round Tuesday equaled the team's best single-round score of 2016-17, set three times during the fall campaign. USF won the team title at Old Waverly, carding a 16-under 283-277=560.

"This is the third time in four tournaments this spring we've finished with a team score around par," Martin said. "It's a few things here and a few there but I'm pleased with the progress we're making."

UC finished one shot over par at both the Mobile Sports Authority Intercollegiate (1-over 865 on Feb. 21) and the Lone Star Invitational (1-over 865 on Mar. 21) earlier this spring.
