West Lafayette Regional Live Scoring/Results
CINCINNATI - University of Cincinnati sophomore Austin Squires (Union, Ky./Ryle High School) begins play in the NCAA Golf Championship on Monday at the Birck Boilermaker Golf Complex (Kampen Course) in West Lafayette, Indiana. The three-round event runs through Wednesday.
Squires will tee off on the 10th hole beginning at 10:23 a.m. ET. Live scoring and results are available at GolfStat.com.
The West Lafayette regional is one of six 54-hole regional tournaments played across the country, May 15-17. Thirteen teams and 10 individuals not on those teams will compete at Purdue. The low five teams and the low individual not from one of those five advancing teams will move on to the finals, May 26-31, at Rich Harvest Farms in Sugar Grove, Illinois.
"The golf course benefits a longer player off the tee and that suits Austin well," UC head coach Doug Martin said. "He's a good iron player and you have to be on this course. Most importantly, he's in a good state of mind and he's ready to go compete. I know he's had great preparation."
Named the American Athletic Conference Player of the Year, Squires led all league players with six top-5 finishes during the season, including a win at the Firestone Invitational on Oct. 4 and a tie for fifth at the American Championship on Apr. 25. He earned entry into the event as an at-large selection thanks to his top-150 national ranking.
Squires' appearances in this week's event is significant for the Bearcats program. He becomes just the fifth Cincinnati player selected to participate in the NCAA Tournament and the first since David Tepe took part in the 2013 NCAA Tournament after qualifying automatically by winning the BIG EAST Championship. Squires joins Tepe along with George McManis (1965), Geoff Hensley (1969) and Jon Nichols (1974) in the select group of Bearcats to play in the national tournament.
Squires was selected as the third individual for the West Lafayette regional. He will be joined by Peter Kim (Army); Mark Lawrence Jr., (Virginia Tech); Keegan de Lange (Louisville), Lloyd Jefferson Go (Seton Hall), David Kocher (Maryland), Sarit Suwannarut (Virginia Tech), Patrick Flavin (Miami [Ohio]), Peyton White (Ohio) and Trent Wallace (Illinois State).
The 13 teams competing at the West Lafayette regional are Florida, Illinois, UNLV, Auburn, South Carolina, Colorado, host Purdue, New Mexico, Augusta, Saint Mary's, Campbell, Richmond and Cleveland State.
