OLYMPIA FIELDS, Ill. – For the second-consecutive year, former University of Cincinnati women's golfer Hillery Wilson, now Hillery Sence, will compete in the KPMG Women's PGA Championship. The major tournament will take place June 29 – July 2 at Olympia Field Country Club.
Play at the championship will be broadcasted live on the Golf Channel, June 29-30, and will air on NBC, July 1-2.
Sence qualified for the tournament after placing in a tie for fifth at the 2016 LPGA T&CP National Championship on Aug. 29-31, 2016 at Reunion Resort in Kissimmee, Florida. With the top-eight finishers earning a KPMG qualifying spot, she carded a three-round, even-par 216 including a final round 71.
In this year's KPMG, more than 150 golfers will compete with the top 70 making the cut for rounds three and four. With 72 holes of golf spread over four days, the winnings purse is $3.5 million. The 6,588-yard Olympia Fields course will play at a par of 71. The tournament was started in 1955 and is one of the LPGA Tour's five majors.
At the 2016 KPMG, Sence missed the cut following rounds of 82 in both the first and second rounds.
"Last year, being my first major, I had to deal with quite a bit of nerves," said Sence. "I didn't know what to expect. I feel more confident this year. Olympia Fields is more my style of golf course. I'm still going to enjoy the experience, not have any expectations, and my play my own game."
Sence enjoyed a decorated career at UC with nine wins in four years (2004-07). She earned All-BIG EAST honors in 2007 and was named to the Conference USA All-Freshman Team in 2005. Sence also recorded a career-low round of 68 as a junior which was, at the time, a program record.
