PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The University of Cincinnati football and men's cross country teams were recognized Tuesday as 2016-17 American Athletic Conference Team Academic Excellence Award winners, Commissioner Mike Aresco announced.
The Bearcats football team won the award for the second-straight year.Teams are recognized for having the highest collective grade-point averages in their respective sport. The selections are made by the conference's Academic Affairs Committee. The winners were chosen based on the 2016-17 grade-point average of each student-athlete who appeared on an institution's roster as of the last contest of the championship segment in each conference-sponsored sport.
The American will announce its 2016-17 Scholar-Athlete Sport Excellence Award winners Wednesday and will announce the 2016-17 All-Academic Team Thursday.
