TicketsNEWPORT, R.I. - The University of Cincinnati football team was picked to finish fourth in the American Athletic Conference East Division, the league office announced Tuesday.
The Bearcats are in Newport for the American's annual Summer Kickoff and Media Day.
UC received 100 points in the preseason poll, which was selected by local and national media who cover the conference. USF (180) was the unanimous choice to win the east division and the conference overall. UCF (126) and Temple (119) were picked ahead of the Bearcats. East Carolina (63) and UConn (42) round out the east division.
"Polls are what they are," Head Coach Luke Fickell said. "It's up to us to go out and prove the polls wrong. Our players have been working hard since this spring and I'm proud of our them. They've handled the transition well and it resulted in a great spring and summer. We need to carry that over into training camp, and I know they are as excited as I am to get started."
Training camp gets underway for the Bearcats on July 26 ahead of the season opener against Austin Peay on Thursday, Aug. 31 at 7 p.m. ET in Nippert Stadium.
The Bearcats travel to Raymond James Stadium to face the Bulls on Oct. 28 along with a trip to East Carolina on Nov. 17. UCF (Oct. 7), Temple (Nov. 10) and UConn (Nov. 25) all visit Cincinnati in 2017.
Memphis was selected to win the west division with 169 votes and 26 first-place choices. Houston (137), Navy (128), Tulsa (102), SMU (64) and Tulane (30) make up the voting in the west division.
UC faces SMU in Nippert Stadium on Oct. 21 and takes on Navy (Sept. 23) and Tulane (Oct. 28) in road contests this season.
