CINCINNATI  – University of Cincinnati senior wide receiver Devin Gray (Reno, Nevada/Reed/Sierra College) was named to the preseason watch list for the 2017 Biletnikoff Award Watch List.

The Biletnikoff Award annually recognizes the outstanding receiver in college football. Any player, regardless of position (wide receiver, tight end, slot back, and running back) who catches a pass
is eligible for the award. As such, the Biletnikoff Award recognizes the outstanding receiver, not merely the outstanding wide receiver.

Gray burst onto the UC scene in 2016, becoming the first UC wideout in 129 years to tally 100 or more receiving yards in his Bearcats debut. He hauled in a team-high 58 receptions for 860 yards and five TDs, averaging 14.8 yards per catch. Gray led the squad in receiving in five games, breaking the 100-yard mark on three occasions.

He opened the year with five catches for 111 yards against UT Martin, tallied seven receptions for 105 yards against BYU and closed out the campaign with a career best 143 yards receiving on five catches at Tulsa. Gray found the end zone five times, twice in the first half at Temple, setting a career mark. The 82-yard TD ball from QB Hayden Moore to Gray at Tulsa was UC's longest play from scrimmage in 2016.

The award recipient is selected by the highly distinguished Biletnikoff Award National Selection Committee, a group of prominent college football journalists, commentators, and former receivers. Foundation trustees do not vote and have never voted.

Receivers are periodically added to the watch list as their season performances dictate. Actual, not potential, performance is the basis for inclusion on the Biletnikoff Award Watch List.

The transparently detailed and explicit criteria for candidate eligibility, watch list inclusion, and voting appear at: BiletnikoffAward.com/criteria

The 2017 Biletnikoff Award winner will be presented live on December 7, 2017, on The Home Depot College Football Awards Show to be broadcast 7:00 - 9:00pm (EST) on ESPN. College Football Hall of Famer, Heisman Trophy winner, and Biletnikoff Award voter Desmond Howard will present the 2017 Biletnikoff Award winner on the show. Howard is one of only 5 ends or receivers who has won the Heisman Trophy, joining Larry Kelley, Leon Hart, Johnny Rodgers, and Biletnikoff Award voter Tim Brown.

UC opens its 2017 season on Thursday, Aug. 31 against Austin Peay inside Nippert Stadium at 7 p.m. ET. Season tickets, mini-plans and flex packs are on sale now and can be purchased by calling 1-877-CATS-TIX or visiting GoBEARCATS.com/tickets.
