CINCINNATI Vanessa Gilles continues to shine on the field as the rising senior at the University of Cincinnati recently was named a 2017 Women's Mid-Season League1 Ontario All-Star. Gilles, who currently plays for West Ottawa SC, was selected for the team that will participate in the 2017 Women's All-Star Match that will be held July 25 (Tuesday) at the Ontario Soccer Centre.

"I haven't been here for the whole season, but just being able to play and get ready for (the Cincinnati) season has been awesome," Gilles said. "It's always great to be able to practice in a different environment with different players and coaches to get a different perspective. That's also why I think the all-star game will be fun and beneficial for me since I will be able to play with different people. I think being able to come back to Canada and play here again was a great opportunity to get more exposure as well."

Gilles (Ottawa, Ontario/Louis Riel), who was tapped as the 2016 American Athletic Conference Preseason Defender of the Year before earning First Team American Athletic All-Conference accolades, has appeared in eight matches for WOSC and has tallied two goals as well. Her side currently sits tied for second in the 11-team league on 19 points. To become an all-star, Gilles was nominated by her coaches and then selected in a vote of all the coaches in the league.

The all-star match will see the L1O team play the Canada Games Team Ontario side that is comprised of highly-talented U18 players with international experience in what will be their final match before the Canada Games are held.
