CINCINNATI - The University of Cincinnati football team celebrated its best Wednesday with a C-Paw Pride Dinner at the Kingsgate Marriott.

The dinner recognized the top performers in the program from UC's summer workout program.

"We are rewarding the guys that do everything right," Director of Football Sports Performance Brady Collins said. "They bring others with them. Push the culture we want to push and represent the University in the right way. It has been a special summer and we want to celebrate that."

End of summer awards were given out recognizing those who were accountable to coaches, staff and teammates, achieved in the classroom and maintained positive attitudes.

Points were kept for all workouts, events and activities during the summer with the top five point earners, OL Korey Cunningham, LB Joel Dublanko, DT Marquise Copeland, LB Perry Young and LB Jaylyin Minor, all grabbing additional recognition.

QB Hayden Moore was recognized as the most improved from the start to end of the summer workout period.

Collins and his staff implemented a new award, which he calls 'an unbelievable honor,' the Iron Bearcat Award.

The award doesn't recognize the strongest or fastest, but it recognizes the student-athletes who lead, show toughness, give incredible effort and are the most accountable.

The inaugural winners of the Iron Bearcat Award were: Carter Jacobs, Devin Gray. Jaylyin Minor, Mike Boone, Marquise Copeland and Korey Cunningham.

Following the presentations from the sports performance staff, Head Coach Luke Fickell had his own accolades to award as walk-on OL Garrett Campbell and S Sheldon Doss were put on scholarship.

"There are no handouts in our program," Fickell said. "We have high expectations and everything is earned. There's no greater reward than achieving something you have earned and both Garrett and Sheldon have done that."

UC returned to the practice field Wednesday for the second day of a five-day minicamp with the 2017 season opener approaching on Thursday, Aug. 31. The Bearcats will take on Austin Peay at 7 p.m. ET inside Nippert Stadium.
