PERRYSBURG, Ohio – University of Cincinnati women's golf sophomore Alyssa Burritt (Bellbrook, Ohio/Bellbrook) placed runner-up at the 2017 Women's Ohio State Amateur Championship at Belmont Country Club.
Most notably, Burritt knocked off top seed Caroline Markley, 5 & 4, in the third round of the match play tournament. She came up short in the final, falling to Ashley Au, 3 & 2, at the 6022-yard, par-73 course.
Before match play, the Bellbrook native qualified for the 32-player championship flight with a score of 76 during stroke play to seed eighth overall. Before taking down the No. 1 seed, Burritt defeated Liz Kim in the first round and Kaylee Neumeister in the second. She moved on to the final after besting Makenzie Torres, 3 & 2, in semifinal action.
Burritt has kept the momentum going after winning the 2017 Women's Dayton Metropolitan Championship on July 22 at Heatherwoode Golf Club in Springboro, Ohio. Burritt ran away with the tournament victory, winning by a total of 14 strokes over 54 holes.
This past season for the Bearcats, Burritt competed as a member of UC's scoring team in two events and as an individual in two events. She shot a season-best round of 74 in the third round and had a season-high placement of a tie for 28th place at the Mercer Idle Hour Collegiate (Oct. 31 - Nov. 1). The freshman carded an average of 78.0 during 12 rounds of play.
