TicketsCINCINNATI - The University of Cincinnati volleyball program was recently named to the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Team Academic Award list as the Bearcats program once again maintained a 3.30+ grade-point average during the 2016-17 academic year.
The Bearcats are one of a record 833 programs that were honored this year nationally, including 149 NCAA Division I women's teams. The award, which has been given annually since the 1992-93 academic year, also was received by teams in the following groupings: NCAA Division II women (120 teams), NCAA Division III women (154), NAIA women (51), two-year colleges (21), NCCAA (1), collegiate men (20), high school girls (277), high school boys (21) and college beach (20).
The team award is not the only academic honor received by the Bearcats this year as 12 members of the team were also selected for American Athletic Conference All-Academic honors following the season. The student-athletes that were honored for maintaining a minimum 3.00 GPA include Lise Alaiwan, Dasha Cabarkapa, Lindsey Dinkelacker, Ciara Hill, Erica Kostelac, Carly Nolan, Elly Ogle, Parker Shepherd, Jordan Thompson, Jade Tingelhoff, Abby Williams and Sabrina Wolf.
Earlier this week, the Bearcats opened training camp ahead of the 2018 season that is set to get underway with three matches at the Bluegrass Battle in Lexington, Ky., August 25. UC will face both Utah (1 p.m.) and Arkansas State (6 p.m.) on Friday, August 25, before facing host Kentucky (7:30 p.m.) Saturday, August 26.
