TicketsCINCINNATI - Open auditions for public address (PA) announcers at select University of Cincinnati athletics events will be held several times during the month of August, the UC Department of Athletics has announced. The auditions will be held to select announcers for the 2017 home schedule for Bearcats volleyball and men's soccer.
The PA announcer will serve as the main voice of the Bearcats during home events at Gettler Stadium (soccer) and St. Ursula Academy (volleyball). The role will include introducing starting lineups, in-game action and other in-venue announcements as needed. During the auditions, participants will be asked to complete a script read and game calls over the PA system and also will meet with several UC staff members for a brief interview.
There are several requirements and qualifications necessary for an announcer position:
- Strong vocal talent
- Ability to speak comfortably in public to large crowds
- Strong knowledge of the selected sport and its rules
- Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced and sometimes stressful environment
- Ability to be spontaneous and react quickly as appropriate
- Receptive to both positive and constructive feedback
The successful candidate, who will work as an independent contractor, MUST be available for all home events which include weekdays, week nights, weekends and potentially holidays. You can view each team's schedule below:
2017 Men's Soccer Schedule | 2017 Volleyball Schedule
Please note: while the auditions are being conducted to fill one position for each sport, some candidates could be asked to serve in a back-up capacity should the need arrive.
Auditions for men's soccer will be held Tuesday, August 22, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Gettler Stadium on the UC campus. Auditions for volleyball will be announced next week once times and locations can be finalized.
To schedule an audition, please email your interest to Alex Ryan (alex.ryan@uc.edu) in the UC Athletics Communications office. In your email, please include the following:
- Time(s) you are available to audition (please submit several options if possible)
- Listing of current and previous PA announce positions held
- Any issues you foresee in regards to unavailability for certain home events
