Ogle’s Double-Double Not Enough as UC Falls to Arkansas State, 3-1

Elly Ogle recorded her first career double-double and Carly Nolan tallied her fifth-career 20-plus kill total, but it was not enough as the University of Cincinnati volleyball team dropped a 3-1 decision to Arkansas State in the second match of the day at Bluegrass Battle in Lexington, Ky.

LEXINGTON, Ky.Elly Ogle recorded her first career double-double and Carly Nolan tallied her fifth-career 20-plus kill total, but it was not enough as the University of Cincinnati volleyball team dropped a 3-1 decision to Arkansas State in the second match of the day at Bluegrass Battle in Lexington, Ky. The loss dropped the Bearcats to 0-2 on the season while the Red Wolves improved to 1-1.

• Cincinnati fell to 0-2 on the year while the Red Wolves moved to 1-1
• Tonight's match marked the first time the two teams have played one another
• Ogle recorded 12 kills and 18 digs on the night to record her first collegiate double-double
• Ogle entered the match with a career-high four kills before her 12-kill performance in the night cap
• Erica Kostalec, in her second career match with the Bearcats, raised her career kills mark from four to 13, which was the second-best total on the night for UC
• Nolan recorded 20 kills in the match, marking the fifth time in her career she has posted 20 or more in a match... she had two such matches in each of the last two seasons, including a 23 and 21-kill performance in 2016
Jade Tingelhoff finished with 39 assists on the night and nearly had a double-double as she finished the night with eight digs

// SET BREAKDOWN
Set 1: ASU, 25-19

• The set opened with both teams trading service errors and then kills as UC remained within two points for much of the opening play
• Ogle sent a shot straight down the line to bring the Bearcats to within one at 11-10, but that was the closest UC would get as ASU went on a 6-0 run before Kostalec ended the run with another blistering shot down the line
• Each team had several strong kills and blocks throughout the rest of the set, but UC was unable to climb all the way back
• Nolen led the way with a match-high seven kills in the first set while Tingelhoff assisted 10 times
• Along with one kill and one assisted block, Kostalec also was a defensive stalwart as she collected a match-high seven digs

Set 2: UC, 28-26
• The Bearcats came out hot in the second set and took a 4-1 lead with Tingelhoff sending the ball down to the floor on an overpass for the lead
• UC maintained the lead much of the set until ASU went on a mini run to tie it at 18-18 before Kostalec reclaimed the lead for the Bearcats with a big kill
• After it was tied at 20, the Red Wolves took the lead and built it to 22-20 before again climbing to 24-22
• Nolan then went on a tear, scoring several kills and digs to keep UC on pace with ASU
• UC trailed, 26-25, before running three points off to take the win, 28-26, with Ogle's blast securing the first set won for UC this season
• Offensively, Nolan had the hot hand as she recorded eight kills while Ogle recorded six of her own to go with six digs

Set 3: ASU, 25-21
• After falling behind early, the Bearcats fought back to tie it a 4-4 when Nolan smashed an overpass at the net
• ASU regained the lead and built leads of three and four points most of the rest of the way before UC gain clawed its way back into the mix and took the lead, 20-19, with Kostalec recording a pair of kills in back-to-back points
• But, the Red Wolves took the lead back after the set was tied at 21-21 and scored the final four points to secure the win
• Kostalec recorded five kills in the set to the lead the way while Nolan posted three kills and as many digs
Jasmine Jones posted a solo block and two assisted blocks defensively

Set 4: ASU, 25-14
• The Red Wolves jumped out to an early 5-2 lead and the Bearcats were unable to dig their way out of the deficit
• Trailing 9-2, Ogle went on the attack and slammed home a pass from Tingelhoff to record her 10th kill of the match and give her a double-double (17 digs) for the first time in her collegiate career
• But, from there, ASU pulled away and utilized several three-point runs to take the fourth set and the overall match
• Ogle led the way in the fourth with three kills while adding one service ace, one dig and one block
• Kostalec recorded one kill to bring her match total to 13, who earlier in the day had four kills
• Tingelhoff finished with 39 assists in the match while adding eight digs and two kills

The Bearcats will return to action in Lexington tomorrow night as they will face host and #14-ranked Kentucky at 7:30 p.m. The match will be streamed live on SEC Network+ through the WatchESPN app.
