DAYTON, Ohio – The University of Cincinnati men's soccer team (1-1-0) dropped a 4-2 decision to the Wright State Raiders (1-0-1) on Monday evening at Alumni Field.

Coming back from one-goal deficits twice in the match, sophomores David Sanz and Austin Smythe provided the Bearcats scoring punch but it was not enough as WSU's AJ Paterson recorded a hat trick.

Looking to build off an impressive 3-1 season-opening home win Friday versus Gardner-Webb, UC fell behind early when it was whistled for a foul in the box which led to a Raiders penalty-kick conversion. Facing an early deficit, the Bearcats went on the attack which led to Sanz cashing in on a free kick for the second-consecutive game as the two teams went into halftime knotted at one.

Following an early second-half score by the Raiders, UC answered with a Smythe goal to again tie up the match. Paterson then added his second score minutes later to put WSU back on top. Searching for the match-tying score down the stretch, Paterson dealt the Bearcats a backbreaker in the 84th minute to complete the hat trick.
