CINCINNATI - University of Cincinnati women's soccer senior Julie Gavorski has been named this week's American Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week following her two-goal performance in the Bearcats' 2-1 victory at Northwestern Sunday afternoon. Gavorski, who scored the game-winner for the second time in as many matches, led the Bearcats back from a 1-0 deficit two goals in the second half to keep UC undefeated at 4-0-1.
Gavorski, who scored the game-winner in a 1-0 defeat of visiting Miami (Fla.) last Sunday in Cincinnati, tallied her first goal from distance as she blasted the ball into the upper corner of the goal to tie the match at 1-1. Then, in the 72', she struck again, this time taking a pass from Sophie Gorman that led her inside the penalty area where she hit the ball home for what would become the game-winner against the reigning Big Ten Conference Champions. The winning score is her second of the year and the ninth of her career, which ties for fifth all-time in program history.
The honor is the first player of the week accolade Gavorski has earned with the Bearcats. She is now a four-time weekly honoree after being named to the Honor Roll twice last year and once this season (last week).
// UPCOMING ACTION
Two matches await the Bearcats this week as the play at Northern Kentucky Thursday night at 7 p.m. and then play host to Purdue at 1 p.m. Sunday at Gettler Stadium.
