CINCINNATI – A packed house is expected Friday as University of Cincinnati men's soccer (2-2-0) will host the Xavier Musketeers (3-1-0) for a 7 p.m. kickoff at Gettler Stadium.

All home matches in 2017 will be part of the Experience UC initiative which is geared toward inviting the community to campus to see firsthand the great things about and surrounding the University. Experience UC includes free admission for patrons attending women's basketball, lacrosse, volleyball, women's tennis, men's and women's soccer, swimming and diving and track and field home events.

Friday will be both #WeWearCincinnati Night and Alumni Night with thundersticks available to the first 500 fans. The prematch National Anthem will be performed by Madeleine Rosenthal. Concession specials will include $2 beers and $1 fountain drinks.

UC fell 2-0 to the Western Michigan Broncos on Monday afternoon at the WMU Soccer Complex in Kalamazoo, Michigan. UC fell behind early when Bronco Brandon Bye headed in the opening score of the match in the 14th minute. Facing a halftime deficit for the second-consecutive match, the Bearcats were dealt another blow in the 75th minute when goalkeeper Pearce Skinner's (Grand Blanc, Mich./Grand Blanc) save was rebounded and deposited into the back of the net by WMU's Anthony Bowie. The Red & Black ultimately could not recover.

The Musketeers are riding a three-match win streak into this year's Crosstown Derby. The Musketeers have beaten Drake, Harvard and No. 22 Boston College in succession after falling in overtime during their season opener against Loyola Chicago. Most recently, senior forward Matt Vasquenza scored a golden goal in double overtime to lead Xavier to a 3-2 win on the road against BC. Coming off an 8-8-3 campaign a year ago, XU has seven starters back and returns 19 letterwinners overall after reaching the BIG EAST Quarterfinals and earning results against three ranked teams in 2016. Senior defender Cory Brown was picked as BIG EAST Preseason Defensive Player of the Year with XU being picked to finish sixth in the 10-team league.

Cincinnati holds a 25-13-5 edge in the series, which has been played annually since 1974. The Musketeers have won the last five meetings, which snapped a seven-match unbeaten streak for UC. The Bearcats are 7-6-3 against Xavier under head coach Hylton Dayes. Last season, Xavier took a 4-2 decision at temporary Musketeers home NKU Soccer Stadium. The last home meeting against XU was a 2-1 loss at Gettler Stadium on Sept. 11, 2015.

The Bearcats are a perfect 2-0 at Gettler Stadium to begin the 2017 season. UC is 8-3- at Gettler dating back to last season with its last setback on Oct. 29 against Tulsa.

Sophomore midfielder David Sanz (Santander, Spain/IE La Marina) was named to the American Athletic Conference Weekly Honor Roll on Monday after totaling two goals and one assist last week as the Bearcats went 1-1. He is pacing the Red & Black offensive attack with three goals and two assists on the year. Entering this week, his goal total ranks 21st in the nation and second in the conference, while his total points mark (8) places 23rd in the country and tops in the league. Sanz was named to The American Weekly Honor Roll last week as well following his one goal, one assist effort in the season-opening 3-1 home win over Gardner-Webb.

Seven Bearcats newcomers have seen action already this year with each recording at least one start. Freshman Darryn Commissiong (Pickering, Ontario/St. Mary Catholic) and junior Malik Suleman (Kumasi, Ghana/Cincinnati State) have each scored a goal while Sean Clarke (Baltimore, Md./Loyola Blakefield) has dished out an assist. Freshman goalkeeper Noah Lawrence (Mitchellville, Md.) has made a pair of starts between the pipes with five saves.
