CINCINNATI - A late goal from Jaycie Brown and a total team effort helped the University of Cincinnati women's soccer team remain undefeated on the season as Brown's strike in the 86' gave the Bearcats a 2-1 victory over visiting Purdue Sunday afternoon. After an own goal gave the visitors a 1-0 lead, Sophie Gorman pulled one back for the hosts in finals minutes of the first half before Brown's effort in the 86' sealed the win for the home side, sending the Bearcats to a 6-0-1 overall record this year while dropping the Boilermakers to 5-2-0.
Not only did the win keep the Bearcats out of the loss column, but it also brought about three big milestones. First, the victory broke a tie with UC's 2010 team for the best start in program history as the earlier team lost in its seventh match to fall to 5-1-1 while this year's team won to move to 6-0-1. The win also stands as the 375th victory all-time in program history while also registering the 150th win in Head Coach Neil Stafford's collegiate coaching tenure.

// FIRST HALF RECAP
The opening 45' saw the visitors get not only a better chunk of the possession to open the match, but also the first score. After pressing forward, the Bearcats tried to play the ball back toward rookie keeper Jane Sensibaugh. Fellow freshman Kiki Lowell misplayed the ball and her pass slid the ball past a falling Sensibaugh while PU's Hannah Melchiorre escorted the ball past the line for a 1-0 Boilermakers lead.
From there, the Bearcats came out an attacked more and controlling the possession more. It wasn't until the 42' that all the work paid off. Looking to control the ball, Gorman had the ball stripped away from her. The rookie didn't give up, however, and reclaimed the ball and carried toward goal. After splitting a pair of defenders, Gorman took a shot with her left boot from just outside the box and saw it click off the cross bar and shoot downward into the goal to knot things at 1-1. The score was Gorman's third of the season and her second in as many matches after tallying the winner Thursday at Northern Kentucky.
PU led, 5-3, in shots, something the hosts are unaccustomed after averaging nearly 22 shots per outing so far in 2017. Sensibaugh did record a pair of saves in the first half while UC held a 4-1 advantage in corner kicks as well.
// SECOND HALF RECAP
In the second half, both teams battled for possession and made solid runs into the attacking third, but neither was able to score. That was, until the 86' when Brown played the role of hero. Following a corner kick and a few deflections, the ball came out to Dee Picou who collected the ball and sent into the middle of the penalty area towards Brown. The senior controlled the pass down to her feet and ripped a shot, only to see PU keeper Katie Luce save the shot. But, that save turned into a rebound as the ball came right back to Brown, who used her left foot to half-volley the ball out of the air and into the open net for a 2-1 lead.
Overall, for the match, Sensibaugh remained perfect on the year and moved to 4-0-0 with three saves to her credit on the day. The Bearcats, who trailed, 5-3, at halftime in shots, fired 10 in the second stanza to hold a 13-8 advantage on the day. UC also held a 6-3 advantage in corner kicks on the day.
// NEXT MATCH
The final non-conference match of the regular season awaits the Bearcats next week as they will travel to Baton Rouge, La., for a 6:00 p.m. CT (7 p.m. ET) match against the LSU Tigers inside the LSU Soccer Complex.
