// LAST TIME OUT
UC knocked off the 13th-ranked Kentucky Wildcats, 1-0, on Tuesday night at the Bell Soccer Complex. Freshman Sean Clarke (Baltimore, Md./Loyola Blakefield) tallied the match-winning goal in the 82nd minute. Playing aggressive late, Clarke was finally able to get the Bearcats over the hump in the 82nd minute when he rebounded his own shot and floated the ball over the challenging UK goalkeeper for the first and only score of the match. The goal was the freshman's first of the season. UC showed grit in the final minutes when a UK header off of a corner kick was saved by a UC team defensive effort to protect the lead as the Wildcats sent numbers forward in front of the net searching for the equalizer. Redshirt freshman goalkeeper Pearce Skinner (Grand Blanc, Mich./Grand Blanc) was huge in his fourth-career start with a career-best nine saves, UC's most since Pedro Diaz's nine at UCF on Oct. 31, 2015.

// SCOUTING BOWLING GREEN
Ryan Sierakowski scored on a penalty kick early in the second half, lifting host Michigan State to a 1-0 victory over BGSU in a battle of top-20 programs Wednesday night at DeMartin Stadium in East Lansing, Michigan. Sierakowski's goal was the first allowed by sophomore goalkeeper Anthony Mwembia and the Falcons in six games this season. Through six matches, the BGSU defense still has not allowed a goal in the run of play. This season marked the first time in the 53-year history of the program that the Falcons had five clean sheets to begin the year. Moe Mustafa leads the team in total goals with three, while Chris Brennan and Tate Robertson each have four assists. In the preseason, the Falcons were picked to finish in a tie for fourth in the six-team Mid-American Conference.

// BOWLING GREEN SERIES
BGSU holds a 5-4-1 edge in the all-time series and are 3-1-1 in matches played in Bowling Green. UC is undefeated in the last five matches against BGSU, though, including four-straight wins. The Red & Black last visited the Falcons in 2005 and came away with a 1-0 victory. Last season, the Bearcats topped BGSU, 1-0, at Gettler Stadium with a goal by Ryan Melink (Loveland, Ohio/Loveland) in the 61st minute.

// BIG WIN
The win at UK marked the program's first win over a top-25 team since beating 17th-ranked Temple, 3-2, on Sept. 26, 2015 at Gettler Stadium. It was also UC's first win over the Wildcats since 2001. Suffering their first defeat of the year, the Wildcats fell to 4-1-1 overall and dropped their first match in Lexington since Nov. 19, 2015.

// SKINNER'S STRONG START
Skinner has been impressive in his last three matches with 18 saves including a career-high nine at UK. Skinner has 21 total saves in four starts including an 0.840 save percentage, a 0.95 goals against average, and one shutout.

// SMYTHE STRIKES
After his score Friday versus the Musketeers, sophomore forward Austin Smythe (Cincinnati, Ohio/Summit Country Day/Radford) is now tied with sophomore midfielder David Sanz (Santander, Spain/IE La Marina) for the team lead in total goals on the season with three. His only score last year was against XU.

// HOME COOKIN'
The Bearcats are unbeaten (2-0-1) at Gettler Stadium to begin the 2017 season. UC is 8-3-1 at Gettler dating back to last season with its last setback on Oct. 29 against Tulsa.

// SANZ HONORED
Sanz was named to the American Athletic Conference Weekly Honor Roll last Monday after totaling two goals and one assist the week prior as the Bearcats went 1-1. He is pacing the Red & Black offensive attack with three goals and three assists on the year. His total assist marks ranks 27th nationally and first in the league while his total points (9) ranks 34th in the country and second in the AAC. Sanz was named to The American Weekly Honor Roll on Aug. 28 as well following his one goal, one assist effort in the season-opening 3-1 home win over Gardner-Webb.

// YOUTH MOVEMENT
Seven Bearcats newcomers have seen action already this year with each recording at least one start. Freshman Darryn Commissiong (Pickering, Ontario/St. Mary Catholic), junior Malik Suleman (Kumasi, Ghana/Cincinnati State), and Clarke have each scored a goal while freshman Mads Tranberg (Copenhagen, Denmark) has been credited with an assist. Freshman goalkeeper Noah Lawrence (Mitchellville, Md.) has made a pair of starts between the pipes with five saves.
