CINCINNATI – The University of Cincinnati tennis team opened its 2017-18 competition schedule Friday and Saturday as the Bearcats competed in a pair of events, including hosting the UC Invitational while sending several individuals to the Western & Southern Collegiate Invitational in Mason, Ohio. Two Bearcats reached the finals of their respective singles draws at the W&S event while several Bearcats posted strong results on their home courts to open the season.

// UC FALL INVITATIONAL
The UC Fall Invitational featured two days of competition in a hidden-dual format with players from Xavier, Ball State and Illinois-Chicago joining the Bearcats on the UC campus at the Trabert-Talbert Tennis Center. Each team had the chance to play in two doubles and one singles match Friday before playing one doubles and two singles Saturday. Overall, Xavier's Lauren Ghidotti was named the event's Singles MVP after posting a 3-0 record at #1 singles after joining Sophia Abelson to earn the Doubles MVP honor for a similar 3-0 mark at #1 doubles.

The Bearcats were led Alexia Coutino, who went 3-0 at the #5 singles position while also adding a 2-0 record while playing at the #3 doubles slot with Antonella Bramato. Caroline Morton and Ioana Guna each added two singles wins on the weekend with Morton going 1-1 at the #1 position and winning her lone appearance at #2. Guna did well with a pair of wins at #4 singles before falling at #3 singles in the finale. Guna joined with Ali Miller at #1 doubles three times with the duo posting a 1-2 record while Morton also went 1-2 with all three matches coming in the #2 position.

Overall, the Bearcats played seven different individuals throughout the weekend with just Miller, Morton, Bromato and Anna Philp joining a trio of freshmen. The newest Bearcats that saw their first action for UC included Guna, Coutino and Emma Miceli, who went 1-1 in singles while going 2-1 in doubles.
