CINCINNATI - UC concludes a three-game road trip at Navy on Saturday, Sept. 23, 2017. The Bearcats and Midshipmen will kick off at 3:30 p.m. ET at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium. The game will be televised on CBS Sports Network and airs on 102.7 WEBN FM. UC and Navy have not met on the field since 1956, but will face each other in each of the next two seasons as cross-divisional opponents in American Athletic Conference play.

THE SERIES
Saturday marks only the third meeting between the two schools and first since 1956. Navy holds a 2-0 advantage with both games coming in Annapolis at Thompson Stadium.

THE COACHES
Ohio native Luke Fickell was named the 42nd Football Head Coach at the University of Cincinnati in December 2017.Fickell took the reins of the Bearcats program after spending 15 years at his alma mater, Ohio State. An experienced 18-year coaching veteran at the FBS level, Fickell was a part of nine Big Ten Conference titles (seven as a coach, two as a player) and two national championship squads with 15 postseason games and 12 NFL Draft selections under his belt.

KEN NIUMATALOLO is in his 10th year at Navy with a record of 79-42 (.650). The program's all-time winningest coach, Niumatalolo is 8-1 all-time against Navy's biggest rival, Army West Point, and had led the Midshipmen to nine bowl games.

  • The University of Cincinnati football team plays its 130th season in 2017. The program dates to 1885 and is one of the 10 oldest in major college football. 
  • UC has won a league title in five of the last 10 seasons and played in a bowl game nine time in the past 11 years. 
  • UC is one of 30 NCAA FBS teams with 100 wins since 2005. The Bearcats' .667 winning percentage since 2007 ranks among the Top-20 teams in the NCAA FBS, winning at least nine games seven times in the last 11 years.
  • The Bearcats returned to Nippert Stadium in 2015 after a 20 month, $86-million renovation and drew 222,578 fans in the first year back at Nippert Stadium, a single-season record average of 37, 096. The Oct. 24, 2015 attendance of 40,124 was the largest in Nippert Stadium history. The previous stadium record was 40,101 set on Oct. 1 against Miami (Fla.).
  • UC has won back-to-back American Athletic Conference FB Team Academic Excellence Awards in 2015 & 2016.
  • UC started 2017 with five takeaways (2 INT, 3 FR) and five sacks after closing 2016 with 24 takeaways (17 INT/7 FR) and 21 sacks. UC forced only 14 takeaways (9 INT/5 FR) and 13 sacks during the 2015 season.
  • UC had 28 players take the field for the first time during the opening three games of the 2017 season.
  • Almost sixty-nine percent of UC's roster (77 of 112) is made of up freshmen, RS freshmen and sophomores.
  • UC is closing out a three-game road trip with games at Michigan (Sept. 9), at Miami (Sept. 16) and at Navy (Sept. 23).
  • Due to Hurricane Irma, UC will now face USF on Oct. 14 at Raymond James Stadium and have their bye week on Oct. 28.
  • UC is 3-6 all-time in games against service academies (0-1 vs. Air Force, 3-3 vs. Army West Point, 0-2 vs. Navy). This the Bearcats first game against one of the service academies since facing Army West Point on Oct. 9, 2004.
  • UC is looking to snap a four-game slide in American Athletic Conference opening games and a three-game skid against American West Division foes. UC won its first conference game of the season from 2007-12.
  • The Bearcats have beaten longtime rival Miami (OH) 12-consecutive times in the annual Battle for the Victory Bell.
  • UC's 11-point comeback in the fourth quarter at Miami is the biggest since a 14-point fourth-quarter come-from-behind win at Pittsburgh on Dec. 5, 2009. In that game, UC trailed 38-24 with 12:26 left in the game and won 45-44.
  • S Malik Clements' 14-yard INT return for a TD capped the Miami comeback with 1:07 left in the game. It was Clements' first-career interception and TD. Clements was named the AAC Defensive Player of the Week on Monday, Sept. 18.
