// FIRST SERVE
UC volleyball will begin American Athletic Conference play this weekend as the team travels to Florida for two matches. The Bearcats will first face USF on Friday at 7 p.m. in Tampa. That will be followed by a 1 p.m. match at UCF on Sunday.
 
// COME SEE US
After being on the road for the first five weeks and 14 matches of the season, the Bearcats will return home next weekend. The 2017 home opener is set for Friday, September 29 at St. Ursula Academy. Tulsa will be in town for a 7 p.m. game.  Cincinnati will remain home that Sunday, October 1 for a 1 p.m. match against SMU.  After traveling for matches against UConn and Temple, the Bearcats will return to St. Ursula Academy on Friday, October for a 7 p.m. contest versus Houston and a 1 p.m. matchup with Tulane on Sunday, October 15.

// WEEKEND RECAP
• Cincinnati went 1-2 this past weekend at the Michigan Challenge in Ann Arbor
• The event started with the Bearcats taking on NC State in an early matchup on Friday
• The Wolfpack won in three sets, 25-11, 25-16 and 25-16
•  UC rebounded well and took its second match of the day. The team defeated Milwaukee 3-0 on Friday evening
•  The Bearcats started with a 25-16 opening set victory before earning a hard-fought second set by a score of 26-24. The match was won in a 25-15 final set
•  In the final match of the tournament, the Bearcats dropped a 3-0 match to the host Wolverines, who were ranked 21st in the nation at the time
Jade Tingelhoff was the lone Bearcat to be named to the all-tournament team

• Next Friday, September 29 is the home-opener for the Bearcats with a full-slate of events

// THREE-PEAT
Carly Nolan has excelled in the first three tournaments to start the season, landing a spot on all but one non-conference all-tournament team (Bluegrass Battle, Xavier Tournament, Redbird Classic). The junior was also named to the American Athletic Conference weekly Honor Roll after posting three-straight double-doubles at the Xavier Tournament.

KNOW THE FOE: USF
The Bulls enter Friday with a 4-5 record for the 2017 non-conference season. Most recently, USF went 2-1 at the Dolphin Invitational in Jacksonville, Fla. The team opened the event with a 3-1 loss to Austin Peay then beat Presbyterian College 3-1 and Jacksonville 3-0. The Bulls finished the 2016 season with a 19-13 record with an even 10-10 mark in AAC play.
 
// SERIES HISTORY: BEARCATS vs. BULLS
Cincinnati and USF have met 31 times, dating back to the 1995 season. Last year, the Bearcats took both meetings, winning 3-0 both at home and on the road. UC has not loss to USF since a five-set setback to end the 2014 season.
 
// KNOW THE FOE: UCF
UCF is 7-5 this season and has won four-straight matches entering Friday. They beat Virginia in back-to-back days last weekend, both 3-0 victories. Prior to that, the Knights took down Central Arkansas and Southern, 3-1 and 3-0, respectively, at the Central Arkansas Classic. Before the current streak, UCF lost to Arkansas State 3-1. The Knights will host ECU Friday night before hosting the Bearcats on Sunday.
 
// SERIES HISTORY: BEARCATS vs. KNIGHTS
Cincinnati and UCF have met a total of 11 times. The teams first squared off in 1978. Last season, UC won 3-1 at home and then 3-2 in Orlando. The Bearcats also took both meetings in 2015. The last time the Knights won in the head-to-head was at home in 2014 by a score of 3-0.

DEBUTS
Five different players have made their debuts for the Bearcats this season, including three true freshman, one redshirt freshman and one junior transfer. The rookies that saw action in the first two matches of the season included Emily Azzara, Maya Eller and Chrysanthi Stamatiou. They joined Erica Kostelac (redshirt) and Jasmine Jones, a transfer from UNC Greensboro.
 
// NOLAN ON THE ATTACK
Through the non-conference season, Carly Nolan finds herself ranked in several statistical categories both in the conference and nationally. On a conference level, she is second with 4.09 kills/set and leads in points with a 4.52/set average. Nationally, her 13.00 attacks/set ranks 7th (leads the American) while her kills per set total ranks her 47th in the NCAA.

Jade Tingelhoff ranks fourth in the league with 8.84 assists/set
Jasmine Jones is 6th in blocks/set with 1.17 while Maya Muldrow is tied for 15th in the same category with 0.91 blocks/set
 
// SMILE FOR THE CAMERA
Speaking of the conference, the American Athletic Conference recently announced the fall broadcast schedule for the American Digital Network with Bearcats volleyball set to be aired live October 26 when UC travels to Dallas to face SMU.
 
// NON-CONFERENCE RECAPS
Week 1: Bluegrass Battle
• The 2017 season started with a 0-3 performance against tough competition at the Bluegrass Battle hosted by Kentucky
• The first game featured the Bearcats and #23 Utah with UC falling 3-0
• UC then faced Arkansas State and fell 3-1 before ending the event with a 3-0 loss to host #14 Kentucky
• Nolan made the all-tournament team and posted her first double-double of the season against the Wildcats
 
Week 2: Xavier Tournament
• The Bearcats began the second weekend of the season in exciting fashion as they earned their first win of the season in a five-set victory at crosstown rival Xavier
• UC also played five sets with Texas State next, but unfortunately fell that time, 3-2
• The event concluded with a 3-1 loss to Western Michigan
• Nolan and Tingelhoff recorded double-doubles in all three matches
 
Week 3: Redbird Classic
• September 8-9 UC traveled to Normal, Illinois, to participate in the Redbird Classic
• The tournament started with a 3-1 loss to Seton Hall, followed by a 3-0 defeat at the hands of Dayton
• The Bearcats concluded the event with a 3-2 loss to host Illinois State
• Nolan was named to the all-tournament team, her third consecutive honor
 
Week 4: Michigan Challenge
• Last weekend, the Bearcats went 1-2 at the Michigan Challenge
• They opened up with a 3-0 loss to NC State, but rebounded nicely later that same day with a 3-0 victory against Milwaukee
• UC finished with a 3-0 loss to #21 Michigan as the Wolverines were able to protect home court
