// LAST TIME OUT
UC (4-2-1) went on the road for the second time last week and upset a ranked opponent when it bested the 19th-ranked Bowling Green Falcons, 3-1, on Saturday night at Cochrane Stadium in Bowling Green, Ohio. In front of a crowd of over 1,000 fans for the Falcons' Alumni Weekend, the Bearcats got the crucial first score on a BGSU own goal in the 32nd minute. Even with the home-team mistake, the Red & Black were aggressive in the opening period with four shots including a pair on goal.  As a result, UC was armed with a 1-0 advantage heading into halftime.

The Bearcats added an insurance goal early in the second half when sophomore midfielder David Sanz (Santander, Spain/IE La Marina) took a left-side cross from freshman midfielder Sean Clarke (Baltimore, Md./Loyola Blakefield) and finished into the net from about six yards out. With BGSU scrambling to climb out of its deficit, UC kept the home team at bay for much of the period. The Falcons did cut their deficit in the 89th minute on a header from Chris Brennan off of assists from Keaton Reynolds and Marshall Mast. The Bearcats scored again moments later when Clarke eluded two defenders with a great individual effort for UC's third goal.

// SCOUTING MEMPHIS
Following a near two-week hiatus, the Tigers (1-3-2), are coming off of their first win of the season, a 2-1 victory over Missouri State on Sept. 10. Freshman Luke Biasi tied the match 1-1 in the 82nd minute with a shot outside the box. The game-winner came five minutes later via a header from redshirt-senior Charles Blankenship. UM has three goals on the year including one each by Biasi, Blankenship, and David Zalzman. Goalkeeper Jake Leeker has 25 saves on the year including one shutout. In the preseason, the Tigers were picked to finish in eighth place – out of eight teams – in The American with sophomore midfielder Jackson Morse selected to the preseason all-conference team.

// MEMPHIS SERIES
UC holds a 14-11-1 edge in the all-time series. The Bearcats are undefeated in the last three matches against the Tigers and have won five of the last eight meetings. Most recently, the Red & Black topped UM, 2-1, last season in Memphis with goals from both Sanz and Daniel Oginni (Mississauga, Ontario/King's Christian Collegiate) as the two squads kicked off the 2016 AAC slate. UC is 7-6 all-time against the Tigers in Memphis.

// HOME COOKIN'
The Bearcats are 2-0-1 at Gettler Stadium in 2017. UC was last defeated at Gettler on Oct. 29, 2016 against Tulsa.

// BIG WINS
UC took down a pair of ranked opponents on the road last week, beginning first with a 1-0 victory at No. 13 Kentucky on Sept. 12 and following with a 3-1 triumph at No. 19 Bowling Green on Sept. 16. The win at UK marked the program's first win over a top-25 team since beating 17th-ranked Temple, 3-2, on Sept. 26, 2015 at Gettler Stadium. It was also UC's first win over the Wildcats since 2001. Suffering their first defeat of the year, the Wildcats fell to 4-1-1 overall and dropped their first match in Lexington since Nov. 19, 2015. With the victory at BGSU, the Bearcats have now won five straight against the Falcons including the last two played in Bowling Green. BGSU fell to 5-2-0 on the year and suffered its first loss at Cochrane Stadium since Oct. 3, 2015.

// CONFERENCE HONORS
A pair of Bearcats were selected as winners of AAC Weekly Awards Monday with Clarke tabbed as Offensive Player & Rookie of the Week while redshirt freshman Pearce Skinner (Grand Blanc, Mich./Grand Blanc) was picked as Goalkeeper of the Week. Both were crucial in helping the Bearcats to back-to-back wins on the road last week against nationally-ranked teams. Clarke scored the game winner in a 1-0 win at No. 13 Kentucky on Tuesday. He then recorded a goal and an assist in a 3-1 victory at No. 19 Bowling Green on Saturday. In total, he tallied four shots including both on goal going for scores during the week. Skinner shutout UK with a career-high nine saves in the upset in Lexington. He followed with four saves in a 3-1 triumph in Bowling Green. Over the week, Skinner totaled a 93% save percentage and a 0.50 goals against average.

// YOUTH MOVEMENT
Seven Bearcats newcomers have seen action this year with each recording at least one start. Clarke has been a catalyst among the newcomers with two goals and two assists. Freshman Darryn Commissiong (Pickering, Ontario/St. Mary Catholic) and junior Malik Suleman (Kumasi, Ghana/Cincinnati State) have each scored a goal while Mads Tranberg (Copenhagen, Denmark) has dished out an assist. Freshman goalkeeper Noah Lawrence (Mitchellville, Md.) started the season with a pair of starts between the pipes, notching five saves.
