UC Volleyball will look to stay dominant in conference play when it hosts Tulsa and SMU this weekend in its first home matches of the season. The Bearcats will host the Golden Hurricane on Friday at 7 p.m. and then host the Mustangs on Sunday at 1 p.m. All home matches are set to be played at St. Ursula Academy in Cincinnati, just a short drive down the road from the UC campus on E. McMillan St.

• Cincinnati started conference play 2-0 last weekend by defeating USF and UCF on the road
• Both matches were won 3-0 as the Bearcats did not drop a set all weekend
• On Friday, UC won 25-22, 25-19 and 25-17 over the Bulls
• The team totaled 12 blocks in the match, led by Maya Muldrow's eight
• Muldrow also had nine kills while Erica Kostelac led with 13 and Carly Nolan finished with 11
• Maya Eller led the team in the opening AAC match with 16 digs
• On Sunday the Bearcats won in straight sets by scores of 25-22, 25-18 and 25-21 at UCF
• The team had a season-high eight aces, led by Nolan and Eller who had two each
• Jade Tingelhoff led all in the match with 35 assists while adding in 12 digs for a double-double

• UC did play one weekend in Cincinnati when they participated in the Xavier Tournament
• That weekend started with a five-set triumph against crosstown rival Xavier on September 1
// HOME-OPENING SUCCESS
• In its last 20 home-opening games dating back to the 1997 season, UC is 13-7 in its first game of the season played on home court
• The Bearcats dropped their last two home-openers but had a streak of winning ten straight from 2002-2011
• UC has won six of its last ten home-openers
// A STRONG START
• The Bearcats have not dropped a set in their first two conference games this season, winning six-straight to open the 2017 campaign
• UC has not won six-straight sets to start conference play since it did so during the 2011 season
• That year, the Bearcats beat UConn 3-0 and St. John's 3-0, both at home, to start Big East action

Emily Thorson leads TU offensively with 3.82 kills per set while Lindsey Ledyard leads the team with 7.87 assists per set. Tulsa's current digs per set leader is Taylor Horsfall (5.16) while Ebony Carter leads in blocks (0.91).

Cincinnati is 4-3 all-time against Tulsa. Last season, each team won its road match. The Bearcats took a 3-2 victory in Tulsa and the Golden Hurricane won 3-1 in Cincinnati. Tulsa went 8-12 in the conference last season and finished 19-13 overall.

SMU currently sits at 8-5 overall and 2-0 in AAC action. The Mustangs opened conference play at home last weekend by defeating Tulane 3-1 and Houston 3-0. Lauren Mills and Katie Hegarty are tied for the team-lead in kills per set with 3.74 this season. Mills was named the AAC offensive player of the week on Monday. Kendall Patterson leads by averaging 9.60 assists per set. Defensively, Montana Watts averages 4.62 digs per set while Lexi Nordmann has 1.19 blocks per set so far this year.

Cincinnati and SMU have met a total of eight times with the Bearcats winning just once. That lone victory came last season in front of a record volleyball crowd of 2,018 at Fifth Third Arena. UC took all three sets in that victory. Earlier during the 2016 season, the Bearcats fell to the Mustangs 3-2 in Dallas.
// NOLAN ON THE ATTACK
At this point in the season, Carly Nolan finds herself ranked in several statistical categories both in the conference and nationally. On a conference level, she leads with 4.10 kills/set and leads in points with a 4.56/set average. Nationally, her 12.76 attacks/set ranks 7th (leads the American) while her kills per set total ranks her 47th in the NCAA.

• Jade Tingelhoff ranks fifth in the league with 9.04 assists/set
• Jasmine Jones is 7th in blocks/set with 1.12 while Maya Muldrow is 11th in the same category with 1.02 blocks/set

Speaking of the conference, the American Athletic Conference has announced the fall broadcast schedule for the American Digital Network with Bearcats volleyball set to be aired live October 26 when UC travels to Dallas to face SMU.

Five different players have made their debuts for the Bearcats this season, including three true freshman, one redshirt freshman and one junior transfer. The rookies that saw action in the first two matches of the season included Emily Azzara, Maya Eller and Chrysanthi Stamatiou. They joined Erica Kostelac (redshirt) and Jasmine Jones, a transfer from UNC Greensboro. Kostelac currently is second on the team with 98 total kills while Eller is second in digs with a total of 122. Eller also leads the team in aces with 13 this season.

The Bearcats hit the road once again, this time heading east. UC is slated to play at UConn on Friday, October 6 and at Temple on Sunday, October 8. The team will return home the following weekend for matches on October 13 and 15.
