CINCINNATI - The start of the 2017-18 fall season for the University of Cincinnati men's golf team will have to wait as the threat of Hurricane Irma has caused the cancellation of the Invitational at The Ocean Course hosted by the College of Charleston.
The two-day, 54-hole event included a 19-team field and was scheduled for Sept. 11-12 at the Kiawah Island Golf Resort in Kiawah Island, South Carolina. The announcement was made Thursday by the College of Charleston.
Cincinnati now will begin its fall schedule by playing host to the Bearcat Invitational, Sept. 25-26, at Coldstream Country Club.
"As a program, our thoughts and prayers are with the people of Florida and all of those along the projected path of Hurricane Irma," UC head coach Doug Martin said. "Their safety is what's most important. We can find another tournament to play.
"Our team was excited to start the season at Kiawah Island. It's a spectacular setting. But having the Bearcat Invitational now serve as our first tournament is another great way to get things going."
