CINCINNATI – University of Cincinnati men's soccer will welcome the UConn Huskies to Gettler Stadium for a 4 p.m. kickoff on Saturday.
Originally scheduled for a 7 p.m. start, the match time was moved to 4 p.m. due to the following home football game at 8 p.m. Admission to the match will be free, while parking must be purchased online prior due to Calhoun and Corry Garages being in football gameday mode.

All home matches in 2017 will be part of the Experience UC initiative which is geared toward inviting the community to campus to see firsthand the great things about and surrounding the University. Experience UC includes free admission for patrons attending women's basketball, lacrosse, volleyball, women's tennis, men's and women's soccer, swimming and diving and track and field home events.

Fans attending Saturday's match are encouraged to wear white as part of Wear White Night. The game is also Cincinnati Soccer Academy Appreciation Night and an autograph session will take place following the match as part of Signature Saturday. Concession specials include $2 popcorn.

The freshmen duo of Darryn Commissiong (Pickering, Ontario/St. Mary Catholic) and Sean Clarke (Baltimore, Md/Loyola Blakefield) each scored in a 5-2 UC (5-4-1, 0-2-0 AAC) loss on Sept. 30 at USF. For the sixth-consecutive match, UC struck first when sophomore midfielder David Sanz (Santander, Spain/IE La Marina) sent a free kick near side from about 30 yards out to the back post where Commissiong was there to head home the score during the 19th minute. USF answered before halftime with a goal in the 35th minute to knot the match at one at the break.
The Bulls pulled ahead quickly in the second period with a score on a penalty kick in the 47th minute following a UC foul in the box. The Red & Black responded in the 58th minute when, off of a restart, redshirt sophomore defender Elias Helbig (Denver, Colo./East/Creighton) quickly passed to Commissiong who sailed a cross into the box where Clarke tapped the ball into the lower left corner of the net to again tie the match.
With the Red & Black pushing numbers forward in order pull back ahead, the Bulls took advantage, scoring the eventual game winner in the 64th minute off of a settled ball in the box from a corner kick. USF provided additional cushion in the 79th and 86th minutes with scores.
// SCOUTING UCONN
UConn (5-3-2, 2-0-0 AAC) is coming off of a 3-2 setback to No. 3 Maryland in Storrs. The Huskies were unable to recover from a 3-1 deficit in the 67th minute. Freshmen Blaise N'Gague and Nicolas Apostol each scored their first-career goals in a UConn uniform. The loss snapped a six-game Huskies undefeated streak including four wins. For the season, Abdou Mbacke Thiam paces the UConn offensive attack with six goals. Goalkeeper Scott Levene has started all 10 matches this year with 34 saves and five shutouts. In the preseason, the Huskies were picked to win the American Athletic Conference with four first place votes. Thiam, Jacob Hauser-Ramey, and Dylan Greenberg were preseason all-league selections with Thiam a unanimous pick.
// UCONN SERIES
UConn has a slight edge with a 3-2-3 all-time series advantage. The Bearcats are undefeated against the Huskies in Cincinnati with one win and two draws. The Red & Black's first setback against UConn since 2013 occurred last season when the Huskies topped the Bearcats, 5-0, in Storrs. The series between the two teams dates back to 1999.
// COMMISSIONG HONORED
Commissiong was named to the AAC Weekly Honor on Monday after tallying five points last week including two goals and an assist as the Bearcats went 1-1. The freshman scored the game winner in a 2-0 home win against Green Bay on Sept. 26. He followed with a goal and an assist during a 5-2 loss at USF on Sept. 30.
// SANZ PULLING RANK
After totaling two assists and a goal last week, Sanz's point total now sits at 15 which the best in the conference and 33rd in the nation. His five assists in also tops in the league and 27th nationally, while his five goals is a team best.
// DEFENDING HOME TURF
UC is 3-1-1 at Gettler Stadium this season. A 3-1 loss to Memphis on Sept. 23 marked the Red & Black's first setback at Gettler since Oct. 29, 2016 against Tulsa.
// YOUTH MOVEMENT
Seven Bearcats newcomers have seen action this year with each recording at least one start. The group has also scored eight goals. Clarke has been a catalyst among the newcomers with three goals and two assists, while Commissiong has contributed three goals and a helper. Soren Jensen (Gentofte, Denmakr), as well as junior Malik Suleman (Kumasi, Ghana/Cincinnati State), have each scored a goal while Mads Tranberg (Copenhagen, Denmark) has dished out an assist. Freshman goalkeeper Noah Lawrence (Mitchellville, Md.) started the season with a pair of starts between the pipes, notching five saves.
