CINCINNATI – The University of Cincinnati volleyball team took the final two sets on Friday night to break a 1-1 tie and beat Houston by a final score, then of 4-1. The Bearcats won the first set 25-20, dropped the second 25-23, and then triumphed in the final two by scores of 25-23 and 25-21.

• Cincinnati improves to 7-12 on the season and 5-2 in conference play
• Houston drops to 6-9 overall and 2-5 in the American
• The team's .272 attack percentage was the sixth best so far this season
• Four different Bearcats reached double-digits in kills and four had ten or more digs
• Both Carly Nolan and Jade Tingelhoff posted double-doubles on the night
• Nolan finished with 12 kills and 12 digs
• Tingelhoff tied her season high with 15 digs while leading the team with 46 assists
Erica Kostelac and Maya Muldrow led the way with 16 kills each
• Both Elly Ogle and Abby Williams had 14 digs
Jasmine Jones blocked seven shots, including two by herself

// SET BREAKDOWN
Set 1: UC, 25-20

• The Bearcats opened with a kill from Jasmine Jones and took the first three points of the match. That lead was maintained for the majority of the set. UC went up by five by scoring three straight on an Elly Ogle kill, Erica Kostelac kill and a Houston error, making it 9-4. Kills by Nolan and Jones later on put the Bearcats ahead 23-19 as they looked to close out the set. Leading 24-20, the Bearcats took the opening set on a kill by Kostelac.

Set 2: UH, 25-23
• The Cougars took a 5-1 lead to open the second set of the night, going on a 5-0 run to get there. A Maya Muldrow kill put a stop to the streak. Houston was able to up by a few points again, but UC continued to work back. Down 14-11, a kill by Kostelac and an attack error by the Cougars made it a one-point set. UC tied the set at 15 on an ace then took its first lead with a Muldrow kill, forcing a Houston timeout. The Bearcats would go up 17-15, but the Cougars tied the set at 18. The set was once again tied at 23. At that point, Houston had a kill and a UC attack error ended the set in the Cougars' favor.

Set 3: UC, 25-23
• The third set started in a back-and-forth manner with no team able to take a steady advantage. That was the case until Houston took a three-point lead, 9-6. Back-to-back kills by Muldrow kept the Bearcats in it and Jasmine Jones had a block and kill to tie the set at 11. Later on, Carly Nolan broke a 12-12 tie with a kill. Lead changes and ties kept occurring until UC was able to break away for the victory. Kostelac ended the set on a kill. There were a total of 16 ties and six lead changes in the third set.

Set 4: UC, 25-21
• Houston got out to an early lead, but Nolan would tie the set with a kill, 6-6. Three straight Cougar points put the visitors ahead as they forced a UC timeout with a 12-7 advantage. UC stayed in it, scoring three-straight, all on kills, to make it a two-point game at 15-13. Another 3-0 run, consisting of a Nolan kill and two Muldrow kills, gave the Bearcats an 18-17 set lead. UC would hold on to that lead until the finish, getting a kill from Kostelac from Tingelhoff to end the set and match.

The Bearcats remain home at St. Ursula Academy on Sunday to host Tulane at 1 p.m. UC hits the road next weekend for matches at Wichita State and Memphis.
