PHILADELPHIA
– University of Cincinnati men's soccer dropped a 2-1 decision to the Temple Owls on Saturday night at the Temple Sports Complex.

Unable to complete the comeback from a 2-0 second half deficit, UC fell to 5-6-1 on the year and 0-4 in American Athletic Conference play. Temple improved to 6-6-1 overall and 2-2 in league action.

After a one-week hiatus from competition, the Bearcats fell behind early in Philly when they were whistled for a foul in the box in the 8th minute which the Owls converted into a penalty kick score by Joonas Jokinen. Searching for the equalizer throughout the first half, UC had a chance in the 27th minute when the Owls keeper came out of the net to keep the ball from going out of bounds which opened up a scoring opportunity that freshman midfielder Sean Clarke (Baltimore, Md./Loyola Blakefield) sailed high. The Red & Black was on the attack again in the 37th minute when sophomore forward Aerin West (Sylvania, Ohio/Northview) met a cross which he sent wide of the net. The Bearcats stayed aggressive late with multiple free kick opportunities in Temple territory that didn't quite convert. As a result, UC faced a 1-0 deficit at halftime.

The Bearcats had a great opportunity from the opening kick of the second half when a ball was played into freshman forward Darryn Commissiong (Pickering, Ontario/St. Mary Catholic) who flipped it over to sophomore midfielder David Sanz (Santander, Spain/IE La Marina) who fired a shot, just outside the 18, high. After an Owls score to pull ahead 2-0 in the 67th minute, UC answered right back when junior defender Peyton Mowery (Troy, Ohio/Troy) played a ball into sophomore Daniel Oginni (Mississauga, Ontario/King's Christian Collegiate) who, while on the attack, drew a foul in the box. Sanz then took the PK and scored for UC's first conversion of the season to reduce the Bearcats' deficit to 2-1 in the 68th minute. Despite opportunities late to tie the match, the Red & Black fell just short in full time, 2-1.

Sanz's goal in the 68th minute was his team-leading sixth of the season. Subbed in for in the 13th minute, true freshman goalkeeper Noah Lawrence (Mitchellville, Md.) tallied a career-best four saves.
