// LAST TIME OUT
UC (6-6-1, 0-4-0 AAC) scored a season-best four goals on Wednesday night in a 4-0 shutout of the Fort Wayne Mastadons at Gettler Stadium. Four different Bearcats reached the scoring column with sophomore midfielder Ryan Melink (Loveland, Ohio/Loveland) offering the opening salvo. The home team followed with goals from both Darryn Commissiong (Pickering, Ontario/St. Mary Catholic) and Austin Smythe (Cincinnati, Ohio/Summit Country Day/Radford) in the first half. Freshman midfielder Sean Clarke (Baltimore, Md./Loyola Blakefield) tallied another score in the second half as UC stayed in control all night and cruised to victory.

Melink's score was his first of the season, while Commisiong's tally was his fourth of the year and his first collegiate PK score. Smythe and Clarke each also added their fourth goals of 2017. Suleman's helper was his first as a Bearcat.

The Bearcats controlled the match with 13 shots, seven of which were on goal, and four corner kicks. True freshman goalkeeper Noah Lawrence (Mitchellville, Md.) was strong between the pipes with a collegiate-high-tying four saves to record his first collegiate shutout.

// SCOUTING SMU
The Mustangs (11-2-0, 3-1-0 AAC) are riding a five-game win streak and have won eight of their last nine. SMU's lone conference loss came in a 1-0 double-overtime setback at Tulsa on Sept. 24. Most recently, the Mustangs shutout Oral Roberts, 2-0, on Tuesday in Dallas with a pair of goals from Garrett McLaughlin. For the season, McLaughlin is pacing the team with 10 goals while Mauro Cichero is leading the squad with 25 total points. Michael Nelson is patrolling between the pipes with 35 saves, a 79.5 percent save percentage, and six shutouts. In the preseason, SMU was picked to finish fifth in the conference with one first-place vote. Nelson was selected as Preseason Goalkeeper of the Year while joining McLaughlin, Jordan Cano, and Mauro Cichero on the Preseason All-Conference Team.

// SMU SERIES
The Mustangs lead the all-time series, 7-2, and are undefeated, 3-0, in Cincinnati. Last season, the Bearcats fell short in Dallas, 1-0. The last meeting between the two squads at Gettler was a 1-0 double-overtime SMU win in 2015.

// SANZ HONORED
Sanz was picked for the American Athletic Conference Weekly Honor Roll on Monday. The sophomore answered a 2-0 second half Bearcats deficit at Temple on Saturday with a conversion on a penalty kick. It marked UC's first PK score of the season and was Sanz's team-leading sixth goal of the year. The native Spaniard totaled two shots on the night. In addition to leading the team in goals, the sophomore paces UC with five assists. His assist mark ranks 55th nationally and second in the league, while his total points (17) is 54th-best in the country and No. 5 in the AAC.

// YOUTH MOVEMENT
Seven Bearcats newcomers have seen action this year with each recording at least one start. The group has also scored 10 goals.
