// LAST TIME OUT
UC (6-7-1, 0-5-0 AAC) battled but came up short on Homecoming Saturday when it dropped a 2-0 decision to the No. 14 SMU Mustangs at Gettler Stadium. The Bearcats challenged 14th-ranked SMU for much of the match, but goals by the Mustangs' Garrett McLaughlin early in both halves were too much to overcome. True freshman goalkeeper Noah Lawrence (Mitchellville, Md.) was impressive for the second-consecutive match with a collegiate-best seven saves including five in the second half. On the night, UC fired eight shots including a pair on goal in what proved to be its closest scoring opportunities.

// SCOUTING CLEVELAND STATE
The Vikings (5-7-2, 3-2-2 Horizon) are winless in their last four matches including, most recently, a 1-0 double-overtime setback at UIC on Saturday. Forced to play with 10 men for the final half hour, the Cleveland State University men's soccer team nearly earned a road point, but host UIC scored on a penalty kick with less than a minute remaining in double overtime. For the season, the Vikings' offensive attack is paced by Vlad Jandric and Noah Pio who each have four goals. Between the pipes, Pavle Majerle patrols with 13 saves, a 76.5 save percentage, and four goals against in three matches. In the preseason, CSU was picked to finish fifth in the 10-team Horizon League. The Vikings are led by first-year head coach Kirk Harwat who was an assistant with the program for the past five seasons.

// CLEVELAND STATE SERIES
The all-time series between the two teams is knotted at 7-7-1 with the Bearcats winning three of the last four matchups including a 2-0 home victory last season in which Daniel Oginni (Mississauga, Ontario/King's Christian Collegiate) scored the game winner. UC is 5-3-1 all-time against the Vikings in Cincinnati.

// LAWRENCE HONORED
Lawrence was selected to the American Athletic Conference Weekly Honor Roll on Monday. He earned the accolade after totaling 11 saves, including a shutout, last week as the Bearcats went 1-1. The rookie turned away four shots for his first-collegiate clean sheet in a 4-0 home win over Fort Wayne on Wednesday. Lawrence followed with a career-high seven saves in a 2-0 home setback to No. 14 SMU on Saturday.

// YOUTH MOVEMENT
Seven Bearcats newcomers have seen action this year with each recording at least one start. The group has also scored 10 goals. Freshman midfielder Sean Clarke (Baltimore, Md./Loyola Blakefield) has been a catalyst among the newcomers with four goals and two assists, while freshman forward Darryn Commissiong (Pickering, Ontario/St. Mary Catholic) has contributed four goals and a helper. Soren Jensen (Gentofte, Denmark) and junior midfielder Malik Suleman (Kumasi, Ghana/Cincinnati State) have each scored a goal while Mads Tranberg (Copenhagen, Denmark) and Mason Volker (St. Leon, Ind./East Central) have both dished out an assist. Lawrence has been stingy with 20 saves and one shutout in five matches.
