University of Cincinnati freshman Nicolas Osterburg (Indianapolis, Ind./Perry Meridian High School) recorded his best collegiate finish of the fall season, overcoming a slow start Tuesday to tie for 13th place at 7-under par 68-68-73=209 during final-round action at the Quail Valley Intercollegiate in Vero Beach, Florida.

Osterburg overcame four bogies on his first nine holes with a trio of birdies and seven par scores during his last nine holes to finish 1-over 73 Tuesday. He carded his best two rounds of the fall on Monday, posting back-to-back 68s.

Teammates junior Austin Squires (Union, Ky./Ryle High School) and sophomore Jake Fox (Cincinnati, Ohio/Moeller High School) both climbed the leaderboard with solid play, each tying for 21st place.

Squires jumped 20 positions with a final-round, bogie-free, 5-under 67. It marked the second-best single-round score of the fall for Squires, who registered a second-round 65 en route to winning medalist honors at the Firestone Intercollegiate on Oct. 3. He finished the Quail Valley event at 5-under 71-73-67=211.

Fox saved his best round of the fall season for Tuesday, carding a 3-under 69 to climb nine positions to tie Squires for 21st place at 5-under 71-71=69=211. He birdied his first three holes to start and finished with seven birdies on the day, including five on the back nine.

Louisiana Tech's Felix Palson earned medalist honors with a 14-under 67-68-67=202.

Cincinnati finished 12th overall at 10-under 286-283-285=854, tying its low team score of the fall set Sept. 26 at the Bearcat Invitational (2-over 287-281-286=854). USF won the 15-team event at 44-under 279-273-268=820.

// QUOTING HEAD COACH DOUG MARTIN
On Osterburg's performance:

"Nicolas has bought into everything we've been trying to stress this fall. He manages his game well. He manages his emotions well. Consequently, he's becoming a better player. I'm pleased with his progress."

On the team's showing overall:
"Nicolas, Jake and Austin played very solid golf this week. When you play in a competitive field though you have to five guys playing very well if you want to be a great team."

On looking back at the fall season:
"After the fall season we have three solid players. We've got to find a couple more guys who will contribute to the team for the spring season. We've made some progress but had a couple of missed opportunities as well. We missed a chance during the final round at Middle Tennessee and this week, having three guys play solid but not being able to have a good finish for the team hurts. This team's work ethic is great though."
