CINCINNATI – University of Cincinnati women's basketball won its third-straight game Saturday when it dropped the Miami (OH) Redhawks, 73-62, at Saint Ursula Academy Gymnasium & Convocation Center.

CINCINNATI – University of Cincinnati women's basketball won its third-straight game Saturday when it dropped the Miami (OH) Redhawks, 73-62, at Saint Ursula Academy Gymnasium & Convocation Center.
 
UC (3-1) is now undefeated at home this season after falling short in its first game of the season at ETSU on Nov. 10. Meanwhile, Miami drops to 1-2 on the year.
 
In a highly-competitive game between two southwest Ohio rivals, the Bearcats fell behind by as many as eight points early in the second quarter. After fighting back to take a 31-29 lead into halftime, UC came out of the break energized with an 11-0 run early in the third quarter to pull ahead, 43-33, with six minutes to play in the period. Armed with a 73-62 advantage going into the final quarter, the Bearcats saw their lead reduced to just five points, 64-59, with six minutes to go in the game. UC was able to fend off MU down the stretch with a few timely buckets and solid defense to come away victorious.
 
Five Bearcats scored in double-figures, led by senior guard Ana Owens' (Indianapolis, Ind./Lawrence North) 14 points. Owens also dished out six assists and was 4-of-7 from 3-point land. Freshman forward Iimar'I Thomas (Oakland, Calif./Sacred Heart Cathedral Prep) added 13 points and seven rebounds, while fellow rookie Michaela Porter (Pittsburgh, Pa./Obama Academy) came off the bench as well to total 11 points and five rebounds. Junior guard Nikira Goings (Marietta, Ga./Osborne) continued her hot shooting with 11 points including three triples, while senior forward Shanice Johnson (Philadelphia, Pa./Cardinal O'Hara/Monroe CC) stuffed the stat sheet with 10 points, a game-high seven steals, six rebounds, and four assists.
 
UC shot the ball at a 44-percent clip from the floor while knocking down 10 3-pointers. The Bearcats scored 18 points in the paint and cashed in with 13 points off of 16 Redhawks turnovers. The Red & Black's reserves chipped in again with 28 bench points. UC was 19-of-24 from the free-throw line.

In the fourth of a seven-game homestand, the Bearcats will welcome the Pittsburgh Panthers to Saint Ursula Academy for a 7 p.m. tipoff on Tuesday, Nov. 21. Admission to the game will be free as part of the Experience UC initiative.
