The Turning Point: The Bearcats jumped out to a 21-6 lead in the opening five minutes of play and held a double-digit lead the rest of the way as they turned away the Hornets.

Leaders: Three Bearcats scored in double figures, including Gary Clark, who led the way with 14 on the night. He was joined by Jacob Evans III (12) and Trevor Moore (11) with Moore recording a career-high and his first double-digit total. Thirteen different UC players found the scoresheet on the night as well. Alabama State was led by Branden Johnson, who tallied 10 points.

  • With the victory, Cincinnati improved to 7-0 on the year while Alabama State fell to 0-7 overall.
  • UC has started 7-0 for the fifth time in the Mick Cronin Era.
  • UC owns a 2-0 series lead vs. the Hornets, having won both decisions at home (61-40, 2011 & 83-51, 2017).
  • The Bearcats lead the all-time series with the Hornets, 2-0, following the victory with both wins coming in home games for UC

HALFTIME REPORT: Cincinnati raced out to a 21-6 lead in the opening five minutes of play to claim the early advantage on the way to a 20-point lead at the break, 46-26. Jacob Evans III and Gary Clark each scored in double figures in the opening half of play as the duo tallied 12 and 10 points, respectively, while eight different Bearcats scored at least two points, including six each from Kyle Washington, Trevor Moore and Nysier Brooks. UC also recorded three blocked shots and four steals while forcing 13 turnovers and committing just three of their own.

// PLAYER NOTES
  • Gary Clark pulled down seven rebounds in the game, giving him 876 boards for his career and moving into sole possession of 13th place on the career charts. He passed Danny Fortston (873/1995-97) and sits 12 behind George Wilson (1962-64) and Eric Hicks (2003-06) who are tied for 11th all-time with 888 rebounds.
  • Clark netted a game-high 14 points, upping his career mark to 1,094 points, which ranks him No. 39 overall.
  • Jacob Evans III finished with 12 points, giving him double-figures in five of seven games this years. He dished out three assists, giving him three or more helpers in each of the season's first seven games.
  • Trevor Moore hit for a career-high 11 points.
  • Nysier Brooks went 3-for-3 from the field and hit three free throws for a season-high nine points, one off his career mark of 10, set against Samford on Nov. 23, 2016.
  • Cane Broome tied a season-high with four assists.
  • Jarron Cumberland had four assists, tying a season high and one off his career high of five.
