TicketsCINCINNATI - The American Athletic Conference has announced its annual award winners for the 2017 cross country season with the University of Cincinnati men's team being selected as the Men's Team Academic Excellence Award recipient. The Bearcats earned the recognition by holding the highest cumulative grade-point average among all 10 programs in the league.
The academic award marks the second year in a row the Bearcats men have attained the excellence honor after first earning the award for the 2016 season. This year's accolade is the fourth overall academic honor the distance men have had a hand in since UC joined the American in time for the 2013-14 seasons as the men's indoor track & field and men's outdoor track & field squads swept the honors for the 2015-16 year. To date, UC has earned 10 AAC Team Academic Excellence Awards with baseball (2013-14 & 2014-15) and football (2015-16 & 2016-17) joining men's cross country as the only multiple recipients. Also earning awards for the Bearcats have been tennis (2014-15) and women's swimming & diving (2015-16) along with the two track & field awards.
Memphis earned the women's academic award on the team side. Two individual award recipients were named as well with Emmanuel Rotich (Tulane) and Hannah Miller (SMU) being named the 2017 AAC Men's Runner of the Year and 2017 AAC Women's Runner of the Year, respectively.
